Radeon 9600 Pro PROBLEM!!!

I have a Radeon 9600 Pro and a Radeon 8500 LE.

Currently using the 8500 LE because for some weird reason my computer wont post with the 9600 pro.

Problem explained: My computer boots fine with the 8500 LE. When I swap cards, the computer wont post. The Radeon 9600 Pro fan spins, but the monitor never comes on. Gives a post code of 26, meaning overclock error. I don't overclock, so I reset the CMOS anyway. Still didn't work. Also, my BIOS is flashed to the latest.

In the specs of the 8RDA+ I see that the 8RDA+ is rated for 8x. But it doesnt support 0.8v! It says 1.5v only in bold words. From reading around, AGP 4x is 1.5v. I can disable 8x support in the BIOS and boot with the 9600 pro but it still wont work. The voltages in the BIOS go no lower than 1.5v, and only go a bit higher.

My question: HOW THE HELL CAN I GET THE RADEON 9600 PRO TO WORK?

Computer Specs: 8RDA+ Motherboard, 512MB Twinmos pc3200, AMD XP2100+, 420w Thermaltake PSU.

The Radeon is suppose to be 1.5v... i have a r9600pro running on my 8RDA+ no problems. Sounds like a bad card, RMA it!

Just got the RMA back. And it still doesn't work!

It's a brand new card. So nothing can be wrong with it.

I found a person on TechIMO forums who has the same problem as me. He has RMAed it too, and it still doesn't work for him. He tried it in another epox board and it worked fine!!!!

Now im thinking its the damn motherboard!

I used a retail BBA Radeon 9600 Pro on an Epox 8RDA+ R1.1 with no problems. I don't think this can be some platform wide problem affecting all 8RDA+ boards...

Did you try uninstalling the 8500 first?
Then run Driver Cleaner (driverheaven.com).
Then power off, & install the 9600.

The problem is not the drivers. I would look for a conflict somewhere. Try pulling out all your PCI cards, install your 9600 Pro, then fire up your computer with only
the 9600 in there.

If that works, shut 'er down again and install another card.

Repeat this process till the computer fails again. BINGO you've found the cause of the problem.

Just in case it IS a driver problem try the driver cleaner

but it cant be drivers if it isnt even posting, so really it shouldnt help

your boad is probalby messed

If it were me in your shoes, asides from removing all cards, and trying with just the Vid Card, CPU, HDD, & RAM I would clear the CMOS ROM chip (after having removed the power for a few seconds more than 30secs) with the jumper (AND the insert key, if your MoBo says you're supposed to. Nforce2 MoBo are supposed to...) But I think if you can't post, usually the best bet is to remove power cord from computer, wait a few seconds, then clear the BIOS, and try my luck then...

This "insidents" are SUCH, it's my favorite part of dealing with hardware... <--- (insert sarcasm, here)

Make sure you have the latest bios for your motherboard. If not, just go to Epox's website and get the most current bios. Also, try installing the card into another motherboard if possible. If the card works in the other motherboard, then you have an issue with the 8RDA+ motherboard. Post back on your results. We should be able to figure it out.

I had a very similiar problem. I had to RMA my mobo, and my RAM. Hopefully my 9600pro wasnt the problem. No one ever had the idea that it was.

Mine had a IRQ conflict with my sound card, until I moved the card.
