Hi everyone.

My current mobo is an Intel D845EPT2, which is what was in my computer when I bought it about 3 or 4 years ago. I recently bought a Radeon 9800 Pro 256/256, and it won't fit into the AGP slot. There is a black rectangular box that has a grey tape leading to my hard drive. The Radeon will not go all the way in because the far end of it collides with the rectangular box.

Is there anything I can do to make it fit? If not, is buying a new mobo the only option I have? Ty very much for your help.

BTW, how much do you think a 100$ mobo on newegg would cost at a store (such as Fry's )? TY again!

I'm not exactly sure what the black box is, except for that it has this grey wire-ish thing (looks like tape) that extends to the harddrive.

Its almost certainly the IDE port and cable thats in the way. Is it the port itself (the hard plastic part) or the cable that is in your way?

LOL, could that "grey tape" be your IDE cable by any chance? If it is, don't attempt to even try and install another motherboard by yourself.

Yeah ... I hate to be the arrogant asshat here, but y-

Oh, wait. I love being the arrogant asshat.

Sell your 9800Pro and your existing computer, and buy a prebuilt Dell. And don't ever open it.

Ahahaha.

Seriously, if your HD is in the way of a 9800 Pro (one of the shortest video cards), then you should get a new case.

That Intel mobo is an i845 chipset I believe, so it should have at least an adequate CPU. If it's got less than 2 Ghz though, I'd upgrade (and maybe take M4H's suggestion of buying a whole new machine).
