I say it's your monitor, but the only other cause would be the Omega drivers. I used them until I had the 4.2's, which gave me problems with distortion of objects, which going back to the regular Catalyst drivers fixed. Just because they are based off of the ATI drivers, does not mean that one of the "optimizations" is not causing problems with your setup.

I played the game called "VIETCONG" for almost a year on a kyro2 video card (remember those?) and had ZERO problems with shimmering effects on my monitor. No problems in any games with my P95f+ and kyro2 combo. I will test my monitor on another system but I DOUBT its my monitor.

MY bet is a driver problem. But I could be wrong of course. Anyway, lots of testing will have to be done to narrow down things.

Obviously, if someone had the similar problem and posted a solution then that would save me lots of time eh

u should really try the regular CAT's from ATi and see if u still have the problem...

omega drivers are optimized and all but in the end it is still unofficial modded drivers..

try the real thing, and if it still has the same problem, u can move on..but my bet is its the drivers

Rage3D tweak has a "shimmer fix" for certain Trinitron and Diamondtron monitors (YMMV though, I hadn't heard of that issue in some time)

Is the issue specific to any game or graphic API? You've tried the easy stuff like different resolutions, different driver versions, moving electronic gear in close proximity, plugging into a different outlet with the monitor?

Is your AA working at all?

My specs........

Shine Horner 340 watt PSU
AMD 64 3200+
asus k8V deluxe (bios 1003) (onboard sound)
1 gig Infineon pc3200 ram
BB ATI 9800 pro 128 megs --------------------------> latest Omega drivers
1 Eide WD SE 80 gig (800 JB) -------------> NO raid or Sata hdd setup
liteon 52 x 24 x 52 cdrw
asustek 50 speed cd-rom
Windows 2000 sp4

NOTE----------> Not overclocking anything!!! stock speeds for everything

*************************************************************************

No matter what game I play there are wavy lines (jagged wavy type lines) on all my straight in game surfaces. For example, lets say I am approaching a door or looking at my gun (vietcong demo, bf1942) I see wavy lines at the edges. LIke a wavy ripple effect.

I have af and aa on max and have played around with various 3d settings. So I am wondering if my PSU or drivers might be the culprit? Bios maybe? I have 1003 bios for the k8V deluxe.

Has anyone experienced this before with radeon cards? Can anyone help me narrow done this problem? My first guess is that my PSU (stock settings in bios considering no overclocking is involved) might be the culprit?

Why do people spend a ton of money on a high end video card, CPU, hard drive(s), motherboard, CD-RW, DVD drive, etc. and forget about getting a quality power supply?

Kick that Shine Horner out ( never heard of the brand ) and get yourself a good power supply like a Tagan 480 watt.

Let me guess. This is similiar to the wavy lines that you'd sometimes see on an old TV set, right?

Regardless of what refresh rate your monitor supports. Start at 60hz and see if the wavy lines are still there. If not, then increase in increments until it comes back. Once you find a rate where it starts to shimmer again, back it down to where it was. This will be the refresh rate you're stuck with unless you replace the card.

Another work-around which seems to work for some people is to use the DVI>VGA adapter that should have come with your card. If this doesn't solve the problem, RMA the card.

This is actually an old and fairly common problem with the early 9500/9700 series. Do a search for "wavy lines" over at Rage3D going back an year and you'll find tons of threads.

Here's a thought, how about learning to spell the company name before recommending it? I'm surprised you were able to spell ATi correctly.

There's always a flamer in the bunch who offers no helpful advice to the thread, isn't there? BTW, it's GEEK, get it right.

Anyhow, my recommendations would be, in order (most previously said, but just to make this post relevant):

1.) The "duh" answer - check your monitor connector to see if all the pins are there. While I've successfully used CRT monitors with some of the pins broken, certain ones will cause that effect. It may have happened during the unplug/install of the new card.
2.) Try Catalyst drivers - if it fixes, then latest Omegas aren't working properly on your setup
3.) Try your card in a similar system capable of running the same game(s) having the problems
4.) If no problem in System 2, try putting the monitor on there too, and see if it's just the combination of the two that aren't working properly
5.) Use the Dvi->VGA adapter in either (or both) system(s), and see if it gets rid of that. It may be a bad VGA connector.
6.) RMA it.

I noticed that after i upgraded my drivers to the latest cats. See if you can get ahold of the Cat3.9 drivers or something. They looked better IMO.

Max AA and AF used to look beatiful, on the older cats, but now i think i have the same problem my "shimmering" is like black dots around objects (like the gun) that disapear and re-appear as you move around. Is that the problem you have?

Dude, just downgrade your video drivers. I have the same monitor you have.

It's just the combination of those drivers and your AA/AF settings.

Dood, let me see if I understand this. You are almost convinced it is a driver problem, but for some reason you refuse to switch to the official ATI driversto verify your hypothesis? Try the cat's, and the come back and tell us what the result was, and then we can worry about your monitor.

The AA/AF settings were what caught my eye. BF1942 does not like having AA/AF maxed out. Try setting them to balanced/application preference.

I'm running the latest cats and BF1942 looks pretty good. You could try downloading the rage3d tweaker program. It has a setting to reduce shimmer. It seemed to help on the Cats 3.7 but I didn't see a need for it with the Cat 4.3s.

Here's a trick I used with my 9700 pro when it had the same shimmering effect. I used the dvi to vga adapter and used the dvi output of the vid card instead of the vga output, and the shimmering disappeared. I doubt this is any software or driver issue. It is usually emi interference from some source in and around your system.

It's gotta be that AMD 64 cpu because the 9800Pro runs like a bat out of hell on a P4-3.06/Intel chipset mobo platform.

Actually I think you just need to install the Cat 4.3 drivers and quit acting stupid. :retard: (ramanon.com joke)
