I'm interested in the new Radeon and was wondering if anyone out there has one running on a BX system with the FSB set at 133 and if so is it stable? Thanks
Why do all the reviews say "shipping now" when they can't be found anywhere online or in B&M stores? I've had one on backorder at Egghead since the morning of the 18th. In fact, I just called to make sure they haven't arrived yet. I was told the cards they expected last Tuesday are "overdue" (duh!) because they aren't here yet. I'm kinda pissed that they already charged my CC but the card isn't even in stock yet! :|
The word shipping doesn't mean a whole lot. The word available does. Intel could probably ship a few dozen pentium 4s today, but that doesn't mean anything. ATI is manufacturing packaging and sending off the boards to be bought now. They are ramping up production, and OEMs get first cracks at whatever chips are produced, so there is a signifigant gap between ATI shipping the boards, and you being able to buy one from buy.com or egghead or whatever.
Egghead's site said "in stock" but a call to the CS Rep said that all of the boards they had were allocated. I'm not sure if that means allocated to OEM's or to those of us who have them on order. She said she couldn't tell me if my order was going to be filled from the current stock.
<< They're probably shipping in Canada but not here... >>
Funny thing eh? If you go to http://www.shopati.com/ it says that ATI's online store is only shipping their products to buyers in the US, which I find odd because they are a Canadian-based company. But Radeons are starting to pop up in computer stores around here, so I suppose that's how they have decided to make up for it...
Robor: Have I seen a Radeon on a store shelf...no.
I went to a local computer store and it kinda went like this:
ME: What's your price on the Hercules 64Mb Prophet 2?
STORE GUY: I think it's over priced...
ME: What I really want is a Radeon but...
STORE GUY: We can get that.
ME: You can get that??
STORE GUY: We can get that.
ME: Ok...but I thought...
STORE GUY: 64Mb?
ME: yep.
STORE GUY: VIVO?
ME: yep.
STORE GUY: Hold on. (picks up phone, presses a speed dial button, says "Hi. This is STORE GUY, when can you get me a 64Mb Radeon VIVO? Saturday? Good."
STORE GUY: Come in on Monday to pick up your card.
A couple of local stores since then are advertising the card, saying it will be available (i.e. in stock and on shelves) next week.
Just like taiwan... back when taiwan was making mouses and sending them to usa, some guy came into taiwan trying to get one fix, my cousins ask him, what the hell is that, they never seen it before...
anyway, there should be a surplus after that apple fisaco
Back to the original topic, it will be touch and go if the new Radeon will work at the BX-133MHz AGP speed for two reasons;
1) Most cards made now are capable, but even the brand-spanking new V5 chips can have problems
2) As a successor to the BX becomes more likely and apparent with the ability to carry the correct divider as the bus speed increases, the need for support of this speed will be considered less important.
