Isn't this what was expected? The 3870 is just a slightly clock bumped 2900 with less memory bandwidth. I thought the big whoopdedoo about these cards is that they are supposed to be really cheap, under $250?

ahhh..not exactly...it will cost around $200-250 for the 3870.....and i bought my 8800GT for $265 after tax and shipping....the difference is 30% increase in AA/AF performance....unless they price this card at like...$180 i don't it will make much profit.

I just found this Inq. link that has the supposed pricing. Looks like they are going to try and under cut the 8800GT. I think anyone would be happy with any of these cards (8800GT, 3870, 3850) considering the bang for the buck... I paid $270 for my 2900 Pro only about a month ago.

How about 2 3850 vs 8800gt since 8800gt is more towards $300 mark and 2 3850 is $360.

I wouldn't buy two cards with 256MB of RAM for Crossfire. I'd wait for the 512MB 3850.

Well, I checked Newegg, all 8800GT's are $270-$330 + shipping. I guess Nvidia only had a small number of cards for the 8800GT launch. From what I'm reading AMD is going to be very aggressive on the price of the 3870's. The 8800GT is faster. But it is going to be more expensive. It's a nice change from what we were paying for 2900XT's and 8800GTS640's just a month ago.

I'm curious why everyone gives a crap about cards that are no better at current games (in reality) than cards that came out LAST YEAR! Think about it. An 8800GTX was released one year ago, and even the 8800gts parts. These cards are quite adept at everything short of DX10. Why does everyone care so much about playing DX9 at 120fps vs 100fps?

Does nobody realize that we're all getting shafted because we have no cards that can play DX10 stuff properly. We need cards that are faster than last years. Yes I know these are priced low. Still, I think the manufacturers are cheating everyone.

Because Nvidia and AMD would rather have you buy 2,3,4 of their cards. This PC gaming is getting annoying, maybe it's time for me to plug my Genesis back in.

Personally I don't need super fast card in the world since I'm gaming on a 19" screen. Just a nice card at great price. I think 3850 can easily get away with price performance ratio if they come out with 512mb vram and stick to under $200 price tag.

Because the 3870 or 3870X2 would be a nice upgrade for my 1900XTX to play Oblivion at 1920x1200 with more frames per second.

if 3870 is under 200$ yes...it will be a good buy...unless 8800GT drops from $270 to $250....or if 3870 is closer to $240 than $200 on release...

Being on the high-end constantly is not only expensive but time consuming. Would you rather us stick with our older cards with newer games that are out to wait for the next gen cards that may run DX10 better? It'll cost an arm and a leg then.

I'll stick with my $250 (when I bought it) 8800GT for a year (I'll think about step-up if something radical comes out within three months) rather than to wait another year for something that would be considered high-end to you.

I can sell my X1950pro for $100, pick up a 512MB 3850 for $200, OC it, and basically double my performance in games that I'm struggling to play at 10x7 now, or get a couple steps up in resolution. Sounds great to me for a net cost of $100. Not sure why you don't seem to understand, since DX10 is a non issue. No games out with DX10 features look any better than their DX9 codepath, and when that finally starts happening, we'll have AMD's and Nvidia's next gen cards out.
