I would like a 7870 but I am not sure if its much of a jump ahead of my 6950.

So which HD7850 appears to be the one to get? I like the looks of that XFX.

Does anyone have one of those new XFX coolers? How are they noise wise? I'm trying to decide between that and the MSI card with the tried and true Twin Frozr 3 which I have heard is extremely quiet and cool but its their "last gen" aftermarket cooler. I haven't heard much good or bad about XFXs new design.

If it is the same cooler on the 79xx series, then stay away. I haven't read a single good thing about those coolers.

Go with MSI, tried and true.

EDIT: Clicking the link, yes it is the same cooler on the 79xx series. You'd do yourself better buy getting the MSI (or the Sapphire one).

Pitcairn is by far the best chip AMD has released in this round. The hd7870 can pass up the hd7950 fairly easily, and it's the most efficient chip out of southern islands. When prices settle a little (as in, lower a little more), this will be an extremely popular chip and these AIB custom variants will be the cream of the crop.

I agree with you that 7870 is best at this moment in time, but if prices change for it, they will probably also change for everything near it in 28nm as well, at which time we'd need to recalculate price/perf for this and every other card near it.

I don't care what cooler it comes with, whatever card I end up with will be WCed.

Sapphire's Dual-X setup is insanely quiet. Don't take my word for it, read reviews on their 7950 OC. Glad to see they put this on both the 7850 and 7870.

absolutely not. its more like a side-grade tiny step. I cannot see how throwing hundreds of cash on a 7870 *when you already have a 6950* is a good idea.

You should pass that urge.

The 7870 is basically a GTX 580 but with an insane overclocking headroom. I'd say that's quite a deal, especially when it drops in price to around 320-330$.

You should pass that urge.

Lets assume that Rvenger games at 1920x1080 and that he likes to have 40 FPS minimum.

Crysis Warhead: 6950 - 34.8 FPS vs. 7870 - 39.9 FPS (15% increase)
Metro 2033: 6950 - 38.5 FPS vs. 7870 - 44.5 FPS (15% increase)
Battlefield 3: 6950 - 32.4 FPS vs. 7870 - 38.8 FPS (20% increase)

If you play these games you're going to see more than a "side-grade tiny step." The % increase may not seem like much, but you're getting closer to that 40 FPS target. And that doesn't even take into account overclocking headroom.

If he's not playing the few games that will push his card, then yeah, no point in upgrading at this time.

The Sapphire cards seem really quiet. So now I'm torn MSI Twin Frozr 3, Sapphire Dual - X (Or w.e its called), or XFX Double Dissipation. Looking for silence it seems like the Sapphire wins?

I'll bet that they will all be really quiet. Low power = low heat = low cooling requirements.

They are hiding the power connector in most of those shots. The company who gives two 6-pins and decent VRMs/voltages in the 7850 will be the go to card for overclocking IMO. 7950 performance for $250 which is sweet spot in video card prices *see how well 560's and 6950's sold.. Right now the 7850 is nerfed by power you can give it.

Course this all depends on what nV gives consumers at $250 as well.

You can draw more than 75W from a PCI-express port and connector really. All a 150W cable has is an extra 2 ground pins so I don't think that's going to be the deciding factor when the power consumption on these is as low as it is.

My thoughts as well, out of all the coolers the saphire looked like the most respectable dual slot solution. Hopefully MSI comes out with a Twin Frozer model.

Then why are 7850s clocking 200-300Mhz less than 7870s?

The OP links to an article saying there will be a Twin Frozer model.
