Haha all the big name OCing programs are more or less the same. They all seem to be based off Rivatuner for anyone that remembers that. I prefer MSI AB just because the interface just feels right for me, but in reality they're all more or less identical.

This what I run at right now with slightly lower ambient temps compared to when I first got the card. If you look closely, you'll see a small temp drop from 74C as I opened the case to get the auto fan to drop below 60%.

This is after few minutes with the case open, fan drops below 60% which actually makes quite a difference in terms of noise. This balance of power, noise and temps would be great without resorting to opening the case. A full tower case with a few extra fans should get it done.

yeah 56% - 58% - 60% seems to double in DB each step

56 is ideal, 58 is livable, 60 is too loud for me

It's looks very nice. I haven't heard great things about the cooler though.

My God man, do you need that much power?? Upgrade itch?

baby on the way.......upgrades will be coming to a screeching halt in the spring

Im tempted to just get another 27 IPS and stick to one GPU

I'm trying to also set aside some $$ for haswell

Id like to move to it, and move my wife onto it, and retire my q9550 HTPC via my current is 2500k

I know it might be completely irrelevant due to a different PCB but my 6870 xfx double d couldn't take a 25mhz OC without crashing.

had to run it stock but it was a great low temp quiet card

Let us know how the XFX does you. I'd be really curious what the ASIC is and how well it overclocks, and more importantly, how well the cooler copes with the overclock.

Agreed! Though I do live with the crazy fan speeds with 1200/1800 on my chip. Mine runs fairly warm, probably due to poor air circulation in my case. I tend to just run 1100/1450 on games that gpu power isn't quite necessary. When it comes to the games that do, i tend to put on my headphones.

Let me tell ya, babies can be expensive if you go nuts on them. To be honest though, with a bit of control they aren't quite the hit in the bank people make them out to be.

Hey guys, sorry if I sound like a noob now since I havent messed around with computers for a long time. I recently bought the MSI 7950 Twin FrozrIII but I am having difficulty overclocking my video card. I tried to use the AMD overdrive and I can't even get over 950 stable, I get an error message Display driver stopped responding. I downloaded MSI Afterburner and I don't think it is reading the voltage correctly as it's showing 0.943. When I run MSI Kombuster it shows VDDC 1.090, I tried changing the voltage from Afterburner but it doesn't reflect in Kombuster but it reflects the core clock changes if I increase it. I also downloaded GPU-Z but that shows even Lower VDDC of 0.8xx (can't remember exact numbers). What tools would you guys suggest I use to test and overclock. I just built a new machine and I would like to just overclock the video card...

Thank you in advance!

Hey , check out the first post. Theres links and instructions for overclocking and download links for the tools you need. Sounds like you haven't done much overclocking in the past and that's okay, we can help.

First off, does your 7950 have a 6+8pin power connector(s) or 6+6?
Also, don't use Overdrive in CCC, it sucks. Period.

Follow the guide a little bit and come back and let us know how it goes, also, try to simply keep your voltage where it is and increase the core frequency and keep testing it until its unstable, find your stable point, and then increase the memory slowly until instability. Increase the voltage by 5-10mv and then find your stable frequencies again.

The card is rated for a safe operating voltage of 1.25v. You'll max out well before 1.25v on the TFIII, and your temperatures will be high anywhere past 1.2v. Let us know how it goes, i can help "plug" in numbers for you that i'm running and we can tweak em to work for ya. Every card runs/overclocks differently.

Thanks Zaydq, I will do that tonight when I get home from work. I will try Trixx and hope that the readings show properly since I think Afterburner might not be reading the correct values. I will post an update once I try it out.

Worth it to replace my HD 6950 unlocked?

You're better off holding out for the HD8xxx series... you'll get gains from a 6950 but considering current gen titles are still playing fabulously on them its not quite worth the upgrade yet.

Not for Skyrim...

Hahahahah don't worry!
All the games I play don't have troubles with framerate for now so i'm good to go but you know...upgrade itch and all...

Good point zaydq about waiting for the 8xxx series.

going to be an HD 7950 x 2 owner.... got an upgrade itch >_>

Oh yeah? What cards did you purchase (Gigabyte, MSI, Asus, etc...) and are you going to be overclocking? Let us know how they perform with temps and OC gains and all. Would be great to hear some input!
