This belongs in Hot Deals, unless AMD is reducing the price of 7970s for good.

Reference model...not sure I'd bite. Not with the 7970.

I like my reference model. Easy to overvolt, set fan profiles, clock speed, etc. The only problem with the reference model is that with a little voltage they can be fairly audible.

This looks like a good deal for those who want those who would play those games and don't have them.

Hot damn thats a nice price.

Around 7-8% slower than a 680.... but at 370$ compaired to ~500$ for a 680.
Makes it a pretty sweet deal.

This is what the original price of the 7970 should've been. Would've been a much better reception. Should I return my EVGA 670 FTW for the $60 savings and 3gb of VRAM? Got it from Amazon so generous return policy.

In the UK cheapest is £299 or thereabouts compared to £549 7 months ago, not same model but same basic card and cooler. I think it's hard to moan about that. Great to see competition working again.

6990 or 7970?

we all know that the 7970 would be a single core GPU running at about 935Mhz if you must, but why not 2 GPU's running at 830Mhz. Also The Radeon HD 6990 will be quite a bit (about 79%) faster with regards to FSAA than the Radeon HD 7970, and should be capable of handling higher screen resolutions without losing too much performance.

If I bought a new GPU, would i not, also have to buy a new board? or does the PCI 3.0 conform with the PCI 2.1 standards?

um a 6990 is hardly any faster than 7970 and has lots of issues. its basically a pos if you care about smooth framerates and microstutter free gameplay. also the 7970 has more ocing headroom unless you want to turn that already obnoxiously loud 6990 into a torture chamber.

Hahaha, torture chamber , haven't heard that one. Yeah 7970 would be preferable to 6990 for sure IMHO.

An overclocked 7970 should be faster than an overclocked GTX 680 actually, especially at higher resolutions.

The MSI 7950 twin frozor with a 7970 pcb for $330 or $310 after mir is a great deal too imo. At 1050 mhz its about as fast as an overclocked GTX 670.

Wow, looks cool. How would one of these compare to 6950 crossfire?

Well HD6990 + AUSUM Switch = Unlocked 880mhz HD6950 CF

HD7970 @ 1050mhz (GE edition) ~ HD6990 because CF doesn't scale 100% on average:

http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/grafikkarten/2012/test-amd-radeon-hd-7970-ghz-edition/4/

The only thing is the reference blower is too loud for overclocking to 1.15ghz imo. But if you game with headphones, then it's fine. If you watercool, then it'll blow 6950 CF away once you get to 1.25-1.3ghz. Since you already have 6950s, it's more of a side-grade for you (but if you can sell them for $150-160 each, it may be worth it since I predict those cards will continue to drop in value once GTX660 launches and HD7850 cards start hitting $200 regularly).

I used reference 7970s for a long while and I think 1150 is pretty easily obtainable with 50% manual fan or less, which isn't really that loud. You could probably do it with 40% manual fan which is reasonably silent......you can do 1100 or less with auto fan (PROBABLY). The fan on the 7970 isn't noisy at all unless you push high manual fan curves, it is quiet on auto.

Anyway, I oc'ed my references to 1150 with 50% fan with no issues really, I suspect you could get away with a less aggressive fan curve. Of course every chip is different so my experience may not match someone else.

This deal is killer for sure, that game bundle alone is pretty insane for the price.....If AMD made the MSRP of these cards around that level I'm guessing they would make an absolute killing. From what I gather these visiontek cards are selling like hotcakes at this price.
