290s don't use an X-Fire bridge.
Previous cards had two fingers so you could alternate connectors.

Hello Karl,
I hope you had great weekend.
I have good news for you. We have found a solution to your problem. It turns out the issue had to do with the adapter you have been using. After a few tests, the team has found a different adapter that will resolve your problem; which is the Bizlink KS10008 Diplayport to Dual Link DVI-D active Adapter.
I have already gone ahead and ordered the part for you and plan on shipping it to you as soon as I received it (should be by the end of this week). Could you please email me your home or work address?
By the way, would you like the game code(s) Ive mentioned in my last email? Ill be more than happy to email them to you just let me know.
Best,
Hi XXXX,
Thanks and yes I had a great week-end .
I'm pretty happy you have found a solution but are you 100% it will solve my issue?
My adapters ( the UltraAV® Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D Dual-Link Adapter ) that I used with a Display Port with Mini Display ports, is working on many combinations of cards.
-Trifire HD 6970
-Quad Fire HD 7970
-Single card with R9 290x
-GTX 780
-GTX 680
I don't know why it doesn't work with Crossfire R9 290x (or trifire or Quad)
The Bizlink you mentionned is the exact same adapters as mine, except rebranded under the name of Bizlink. They also have the same firmware if I remember correctly. In fact, they are both on the AMD Hardware compatibility list.
My address is
XXXXX
XXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I will give it a try and cross my fingers.
Thanks
Karl
They could have said " You are using the wrong adapter, buy this". Instead they are sending you an adapter for free which goes above and beyond for customer service. It shows they value you as a customer. Let us know how it works out.
It's a step forward. I think we can take away that the AMD has reproduced your specific issue in their testing, and have found a solution to that specific issue. So while I understand your trepidation that a solution is available, I have high hopes that they got ya pegged here with something that will work. If it doesn't work then you can go from there, but given the veracity of your testing across 2x, 3x, 4x cards I think we know the issue isn't your system specific, so this bodes well that the AMD team found what I would imagine is a definitive solution.
Interested to see the results, i'm kinda stunned at the attention you are getting direct from AMD. But I guess quad fire types roll hard.
Cause the boyz n tha quad tri/sli sets are always hard
You come talking that trash we'll pull your card
Knowing nothing in life but to be legit
Don't quote me boy, cause I ain't saying shit
Sam is awsome (Warsam) :wub::wub:

It's kind of sad really that same doesn't post very often on these forums.
It's kind of sad really that same doesn't post very often on these forums. He seems to be far more active at OCN.
I honestly can't blame him since his posts get nuked by trolls after about 3 replies here.
Are you referring to me? I have around 9000 posts on OCN but they banned me. I prefer anandtech to any other forums, thats why I post here.
I already have 2 of the bizlink adapters that AMD recommend and apparently they can have different firmware.
