290s don't use an X-Fire bridge.

Previous cards had two fingers so you could alternate connectors.

Its the EK FC Quad Terminal Semi-Parallel, its the same part for all AMD or Nvidia cards multi-GPUs.

Check that page http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l3/g57..._Block_Connectivity-EK_FC_Terminal-Page1.html

Or here for the Specific Quad Terminal I have : http://www.frozencpu.com/products/1...minal_QUAD_Semi-Parallel.html?tl=g57c645s2060

Be careful when choosing, because there is a difference between the Terminals and the Bridges. Terminals are used for most recent blocks, bridges are for the older revisions of blocks.

So guys, I have a small update which is almost conclusive according to AMD.

(By the way, I'm pretty happy of the service I'm receiving from AMD, I don't feel left alone)

Hello Karl,

I hope you had great weekend.

I have good news for you. We have found a solution to your problem. It turns out the issue had to do with the adapter you have been using. After a few tests, the team has found a different adapter that will resolve your problem; which is the Bizlink KS10008 Diplayport to Dual Link DVI-D active Adapter.

I have already gone ahead and ordered the part for you and plan on shipping it to you as soon as I received it (should be by the end of this week). Could you please email me your home or work address?

By the way, would you like the game code(s) I’ve mentioned in my last email? I’ll be more than happy to email them to you – just let me know.

Best,

Then I replied

Hi XXXX,

Thanks and yes I had a great week-end .

I'm pretty happy you have found a solution but are you 100% it will solve my issue?

My adapters ( the UltraAV® Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D Dual-Link Adapter ) that I used with a Display Port with Mini Display ports, is working on many combinations of cards.

-Trifire HD 6970
-Quad Fire HD 7970
-Single card with R9 290x
-GTX 780
-GTX 680

I don't know why it doesn't work with Crossfire R9 290x (or trifire or Quad)

The Bizlink you mentionned is the exact same adapters as mine, except rebranded under the name of Bizlink. They also have the same firmware if I remember correctly. In fact, they are both on the AMD Hardware compatibility list.

My address is
XXXXX
XXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I will give it a try and cross my fingers.

Thanks

Karl

So to be clear, my adapters work with all these setups here

-Radeon HD 6970
-Radeon HD 6970 CrossFire
-Radeon HD 6970 TriFire
-Radeon HD 7970
-Radeon HD 7970 CrossFire
-Radeon HD 7970 TriFire
-Radeon HD 7970 QuadFire
-Radeon R9 290x
-Zotac GTX 780 Reference
-Zotac GTX 680 Amp Edition
-MSI GTX 780 TwinFrozr Gaming OC

But Doesn't work with these
-Radeon R9 290x CrossFire
-Radeon R9 290x TriFire
-Radeon R9 290x QuadFire

Also, this is my adapter

And this is the adapter they will send

I hope it will work, I have low expectations.

Tell me what do you think.

They could have said " You are using the wrong adapter, buy this". Instead they are sending you an adapter for free which goes above and beyond for customer service. It shows they value you as a customer. Let us know how it works out.

It's a step forward. I think we can take away that the AMD has reproduced your specific issue in their testing, and have found a solution to that specific issue. So while I understand your trepidation that a solution is available, I have high hopes that they got ya pegged here with something that will work. If it doesn't work then you can go from there, but given the veracity of your testing across 2x, 3x, 4x cards I think we know the issue isn't your system specific, so this bodes well that the AMD team found what I would imagine is a definitive solution.

Interested to see the results, i'm kinda stunned at the attention you are getting direct from AMD. But I guess quad fire types roll hard.

Yes I am more than happy of the attention they are giving me. Also, they proposed some free games and a free adapter. What can I ask more honestly?

Also, all the service they are giving me will prevent me from going on the green side, especially if the workaround works.

Sam is awsome (Warsam) :wub::wub:

I've been following this thread Karlitos. I'm on OCN with the same user name but I have a trifire 290x setup but only using one 4k monitor through displayport and working fine. thinking about adding more eventually for 4k surround but wanted to see how it was working out for you with 3 1440p screens. Glad to see AMD is being responsive to your problems

This is the first time I've seen direct customer support in action. Normally people just discuss their issues, but I've never seen AMD/NV actually get involved like this. Maybe I just haven't noticed but it's interesting to see anyway. I'll be curious to see if it was just the adapter in the end.

That's awesome  Kudos to AMD for doing that.

It's kind of sad really that sam doesn't post very often on these forums. He seems to be far more active at OCN.

I honestly can't blame him since his posts get nuked by trolls after about 3 replies here.

Are you referring to me? I have around 9000 posts on OCN but they banned me. I prefer anandtech to any other forums, thats why I post here.

I think he meant Sam=same. Really hope it is an adapter problem and very well could be. I moved to 4k monitor and had black screen issues (not related to 3D black screen issues with 290x) that had to be sorted out by changing monitor reported timings using a CRU (custom resolution) utility.

I have trifire 290s and I am also watching this post intently. Not pulling the trigger on 2 more monitors until I see your results Karlitos. I was about to buy an active DP->DL-DVI adapter to test it out but I'll wait to see what happens here

I already have 2 of the bizlink adapters that AMD recommend and apparently they can have different firmware.

Very glad to hear they are taking care of you KaRL. I purchased my 290 Cross-fire set-up in large part because of this thread and your endorsement. Luckily, I have had no issues with mine and I have the same Accell adapter that you do.

Yes they can have different firmwares, but those adapters have been on the same 2.0 firmware for more than 3 years for sure.

The adapters that I have were bought like 2 years ago when I have my Trifire HD 6970 setup.

I used them with the exact same monitors and system that I have now, the whole system is the same (except that I put a 4930k to replace my 3930k like 2 months ago) But the issue occured with both CPUs.

I really hope it works, because if not, I will have to change some parts, or maybe just ditch high end rigs and sale everything.
