Well I can recall a few of you scrutinizing me a days back about my high hopes for the Radeon, and well now I get to say, I told you so

The Radeon performs better or on par with the GTS in almost all the tests (The GTS can win at incredibly low res 16 bit situations - can we say 1997!?). I can really say I'm happy with the performance of the card.

It by no means "kills" the GTS, but its nice to know that there are now two top dog video options to choose from. Within the next month or so I will own both a 64 Meg CL GTS as well as a 64 Meg ATi Radeon, and I will enjoy them both, none the less.

Bah...I still wouldn't trust any card from ATi cause they all have crappy drivers! Well at least my Rage 128 does =). And yes, that means ALL ATi cards must be deemed crappy cause my card doesn't work well!

It is really cool to see a big company learning from their mistakes. ATI really did a disaster with their Rage card (although finally the drivers matured just as I bought a GeForce) - bad timing, slow driver support, etc.

Sharkeyextreme has an interesting review up - the best part is where he quotes the Game Developers as being very pleased with the Radeon. The Radeon accomplishes with finesse with the GTS accomplished with brute force. And best of all, the Radeon is actually optimized for DirectX8 and future games.

I can't wait (actually I CAN wait for the new games and price drops) to see the improvements in this card as the drivers mature, as the Maxx version is developed and as NVidia and 3dfx scramble to produce their own new revolutionary products.

EDIT: Trinitron, they are still talking about you in that other earlier Radeon post (and it isn't all nice).

Yeah I know they are - can't deny the bench marks though - let them talk and I will gloat! Besides I don't take anything here too seriously anyhow.

I agree Spence, it's not just a gamers card either. It's both fast and feature packed. I am going to enjoy the TV in feature.

Then you'll get a triple G800/NV20/Rampage smack to the head

Even though ATi isn't too terribly late with the Radeon, the MAXX version will be here about the time of those aforementioned cards.

Well all we can hope for is that the Radeon Maxx, NV20 and Rampage all perform within 5% of each other to drive prices down - becuase $400 for a video card is getting pricy.

I wonder if a quad processor setup is possible with the Radeon, now that would be sweet, each proc renders every 4th frame.

Edit: I don't really see how the card is late - it performs better than GTS in most cases and was released before the Christmas buying season - everything ATi could have hoped for!

Man, if that price is correct Spence, I am GETTING one of these bad boys. SWEET! Gotta say the card looks like it is going to be BAD! The drivers aren't even mature yet either.

Yeah drivers need work, if you have a Kx133 with a "CE" northbridge your screwed at the moment (or is it the CD northbridge, some one correct me if I'm wrong).

16 Bit also needs work as well, but I mean who really plays in 16 bit anymore? I am guessing that anyone with under a 400 Mhz proc should buy a GTS becuase lower end folks need 16 bit. For higher end folks though (500 Mhz+) 75 FPS in 32 Bit Color @ 1024/768 is allot more appealing to me than 90 FPS in 16 bit.

Terp, the vidcard goes in your computer, not your mouth.

I had a Rage Fury when it first came out and upgraded last week to the Asus GeForce 32 SGRAM. The Fury finally turned out finally to be a pretty good card - just way way too late with driver support.

Now, ATI has a revolutionary product. Just wait awhile before deciding what to buy. After all, the games that will really show it off haven't been developed yet (and DirectX8 is a buggy beta).

my 1st ati card was back in 1995 with my 1st computer & the drivers then went too good either. I haven't owned a ati since then, but still know how current owners feel about them because at work i do the trouble shooting & software installation & i have installed so many darn blasted ati models from the low budget 8meg ati to the best they got, ati fury maxx 64mb & installing them with the latest drivers i downloaded from their site & not the ones that come with the card, I still got pathetic performance & then i thought to myself, why should i waste my time getting the latest drivers if it's to going to have poor performance, i decided to just install whatever driver ati shipped with the card & let the customer enjoy what they pay for. The Radeon, even though may look good, I have already read in anand's review that has problems at 16bit color & that answer about ati fixing the problem at soon as possible is a laugh, it's going to be a while until they figure this problem out. I'm more interested in the G800 & still i have only installed matrox cards for others & never owned one myself, I would like to see if the G800 can be a true alternative to a nvidia product. 3dfx is out of the race until they can drop the voodoo they've been doing & bring out a truly new product & ati with it's Radeon can go the same path as the rage128.

Thanks Aquaman, like say I wasn't sure so I didn't ant to say for certain

RayEarth, do you use 16 bit color? I don't. If you want to look at ugly 16 bit I suggest you buy a GTS - it does 16 bit great at 640/480 at well over 100 FPS in Quake III.

How about a quad Radeon each with 64mb totaling to 256mb memory with an All in Wonder setup!!!!!!!

That would be a big card! :Q

"Well I can recall a few of you scrutinizing me a days back about my high hopes for the Radeon, and well now I get to say, I told you so"

Your high hopes were not scrutinized, the obvious misinformation you were spreading was.

All in all, ATI looks to have come through with a great product. Christmas should be very interesting...

Does anyone really care if ATI fixes the problem with 16 bit color? If 32 bit color is excellent and fast who cares if 16 bit even works?

No doubt the Radeon drivers are immature but thay still kick butt as they are. The same could not be said for the Rage Fury for almost a year. No doubt Nvidia and 3dfx are nervous - their work is cut out for them.

Now when are those games coming out that show off the new cards?

Just because you run true color 32bit in windows doesn't mean every game supports 32bit true color, I sure many, plus me still have lots of old games that don't support 32bit color, Just because someone doesn't use 16 bit as often, only ati & it's followers would think it's no big deal to have this minor problem. I put money on nvidia when many thought the voodoo2 was better than the tnt when it 1st came out & i was on the tnt2 against the voodoo3 & now I bet on the G800, even though i hardly know anything about it, against the Radeon & maybe rampage but not the nv20 because i don't much about the nv20 except it's called the nv20.
