Here's something interesting... just installed the FE last evening, and the recommended Frontier Edition drivers, however went with newer Beta instead of 17.6 for stability reasons. It doesn't seem to have game-mode switch any more. Here's why I'm interested in it, and it actually comes in useful believe it or not: Pro-mode has amazing performance in CAD, which I use constantly to prepare extremely large files (5GB+) for render. Then again, render engines like Blender's Cycles run great on gaming drivers, which is why I would like to have that switch.

Turns out, FE is actually a really good sweet-spot for me... albeit a pinch expensive

Does anyone else have this? Radeon drivers have Wattman, so I can't undervolt/overclock without them!

I find stuff like this very interesting:
Up to 18% performance improvement measured on Radeon RX Vega 64 graphics when compared to Radeon Software Crimson ReLive edition 17.8.1(2)

An 18% jump in a single driver revision is huge. I am very keen to see Vega 64 re-reviewed 6 months after release.

18% in PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS

That doesn't mean much, it was like the massive DOOM update nVidia drivers when the game just came out. Brought an insane 25% increase across the GPU board with one update, but for DOOM only. So... yes, one game increase doesn't mean much, it's the overall that counts. Sorry to burst your bubble. But yes, that gives you a peek at what kind of increases AMD could reach if their dev team gets their shit together.

Installed the new drivers last night and played PUBG. 1440p all settings maxed was getting about 60-70 fps. Fun game.

Those increases are usually tied to either a game engine optimization, or as I think in this case, AMD hacked and just bypassed really inefficient code themselves after looking at it through their GPU profiler.

Remember this was not an optimization for PUBG across all AMD GPUs, only Vega 64.

Hey, I'm just hoping that Vega goes from being an unmitigated disaster to a rough diamond. I need some irrationality to sustain brand loyalty!

I'm pretty positive that drivers are still a ways from tapping out Vega. HBCC is disabled by default. DBSR isn't enabled across all apps/games. Primitive shaders still isn't running either according to the Vega white paper. It references perf based on prototype build 17.320, which we don't have yet. They also haven't issued any sort of guidance to devs on how to setup their app/game to play nice with the feature.

I wonder if these new driver releases will continue to help Fury as well.

Any word if this fixed the Overwatch crash bug that was introduced in 17.7.2?

Holy smokes I figured out where the PCIE 1.1 bug was coming from! It turns out that it was Sapphire Trixx. I think AMD introduced a new control API rather recently. I know by default Trixx runs in a mode similar to Afterburners unofficial mode. It hasn't been updated yet. How I found the issue? I was playing around with mining configurations and that requires a lot of clock and power tweaking. It was wrecking me having to reboot every time I changed a value. It dawned on me to disable the restore clocks setting in Trixx . When that was done I noticed that the PCIE would move to 3.0 and 1.1 for power save without issue at default clocks. However, as soon as I changed the clocks in Trixx the bug would pop up. I got the idea to try Wattman. No PCIE bug when overclocking.

Quick question for you guys. I'm currently running 17.5.2 for my MSI RX480 4gb card. Would I see any improvement updating to a more recent driver? I don't game much beyond some No Mans Sky in short sessions but I do mine using NiceHash v2.0.0.12.
Any input would be appreciated.

I don't know much about mining but I'm pretty sure the latest drivers are aimed at Vega specifically. Read the release notes, sorry, I don't have much time to look it up myself right now.
