Pitty they will not support 3x or 4x Vega GPUs in crossfire. That was the one thing that AMD could have over Nvidia, was the possibility of decent scaling over say, 2x 1080Ti. But with less and less resources going to CF, and lack of 3x or 4x support, who knows if 2x vega will even beat 2x 1080Ti, even considering how horrible the 1080Ti scaling is?!

With that said, good for them to support 2x Vega CF. Hopefully they can get scaling decent. Better late than never.

Just as a side note I noticed after reading my post, I wanted to make sure it is not misinterpreted as an NVIDIA vs AMD rant. My point was more on the lines of I wish AMD would continue to offer great CF support such as they did starting with the 290 series. The bridge-less design was brilliant. A pitty they are moving away from that.

I wouldn't kick the multi-cf design yet and I don't know where you got the "moving away from bridge-less". Nothing on Vega, nothing on others. I think more than 2x in a single system will sky-rocket power use, that's not to say they should limit at 2x Vega in CF. It's just a matter of splitting the new shaders and primitives discard implementation over 3+ cards that's the difficult part. Besides, they will have more than 2x cards at some point, otherwise the x399/TR wouldn't have 64 pci-e lanes.

It's just the first kick in the puddle, much more to come. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xT3TepCRCY check this guy out for more info on Vega.

Hey, I do hope they do put more effort into improving CF configs with new drivers. I do hope you are right. I should have been more clear, I did not mean to say they are moving away from bridge-less, but rather away from promoting CF as a whole with Vega, as I was reading in a recent interview, I believe linked somewhere on AT forums. I do hope that is wrong, and that they continue improve CF support.

I don't even think they need to promote CF anymore at this point, it's been theirs and present for the past decade or more, and with Infinity Fabric voodoo going on it's kind of implicitly there, albeit far more relevant for production environments than gaming. Releasing at least 2x CF was necessary, as their biggest gamer market is based on ryzen, i5 and i7 and therefore no need to chuck away at 3+ CF, because PCIe lanes...

On TR you mix and match cards and use them for compute power, not necessarily gaming so no need to rush to 3+ CF yet. Although I do giggle when thinking what a 4x nuclear-powered Vega crossfire will look like =)) I did the math, full load is 1700W+

EDIT: I have read on a few other forums a lot of people bashing "only" 2x CF for this new driver... yet, funny enough, as Ryzen owners (and even Intel) they don't understand the limitations of these systems before going ahead and bashing AMD. Not to mention I can't remember hearing anyone complain about nVidia's decision to drop 3-way SLI, everybody got a bit annoyed and then accepted it... a bit of hypocrisy floating about various forums.

Does this driver release fix the "no wake from monitor sleep", that the previous 17.9.1 drivers seem to have on my RX 570 machine? And my A8-9800 machine too, with 17.7.2 on that machine, I think.

looks like the Wattman reset is still listed under the Known issues section... kinda wish they'd sort that one out.
