I have a Radeon R7770.
Windows vista
Three identical Asus Monitors

Out of the Display port I have a Rocketfish DP to DVI adapter, and a DVI cable going to monitor 1.
Out of the HDMI port I have an HDMI cable going to monitor 2.
Out of the DVI port I have a dvi cable going to monitor 3.

But not matter what I do, I can't get three monitors to display at the same time.

1+2 yes
2+3 Yes
1+3 Yes
but 1+2+3? nope.

Any suggestions?
In windows display settings I can see four monitors, but I can only extend on to one (plus main) for a total of two. I can disable 2 and activate 3, but can't have both.

I created a group in Eyefinity and was able to create one display across two monitors, but still can't get three monitors to work, it just won't show up no matter what.

I need help

"Rocketfish DP to DVI adapter, and a DVI cable going to monitor 1"

The adapter must be ACTIVE. If it doesn't say active it's passive. Active costs more.

I believe the Rocketfish DP to DVI adapter isn't active so it won't work. If they don't advertise it as active, it prob isn't

Return it and get an active or get a DP to VGA as all VGA adapters are active.

display port can pass TMDS video through, but your video card only has two TMDS outputs, so you can't use DVI/HDMI through all 3 outputs, just 2. Instead, you have to have an active converter to change the displayport output into TMDS signals for DVI.

This is from Rocketfish....

The RF-DP49401 Rocketfish™ - DisplayPort-to-DVI-D Adapter is an active adapter.

Funny enough though the monitor hooked up to the Dp port works, and the monitor hooked up to DVI works, its the hdmi monitor that won't right now. Or does that matter. if I disable the monitor hookedup to dvi, I can activate the one hooked to hdmi.

Again, not sure if that matters.

Not that I'd normally argue with the vendor, but that still sounds exactly like what happens if you use a passive adapter. I think Rocketfish is mistaken on this one.

A reviewer of the product says it isn't active, even if "Cory" insists that it is.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/rocketfi...55#tab=reviews

What you want is something that clearly says it's active, like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815309008

Note that if your monitors are bigger than 1920x1200 resolution, you need a far more expensive active adapter, like $80+ (Dual-link DVI to DP adapter)

An active DP to DVI adapter has a USB cable coming out to provide power for that adapter and passive adapters do not have it... so that Rocketfish adapter is passive... Also Rocketfish is a BestBuy house brand...

Not true. I have an active DP to SL-DVI adapter, and it's just that. Or you can check blastingcap's Newegg link for further proof.

DP supplies enough power for low power active devices (only DL-DVI requires more power).

Yeah, I've used two displayport adapters before that were not USB-powered, one (VGA) I bought on my own dime and one (Single Link DVI) that came with my old 7970, and both worked fine. The VGA one gave off-colors which is why I recommend using DVI to DP adapters even though they are more expensive.

Here are more examples of SL-DVI to DP (or mini-DP) adapters, though you can find some that aren't on the list that work anyway (e.g., http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814999030 or the Powercolor one I linked to earlier):

http://support.amd.com/en-us/recommended/eyefinity-adapters

That list of adapters is guaranteed/certified Eyefinity-compatible by AMD.

Looking at the rocketfish product page, they seem to advertise every single possible feature they can, including practically nonsense things that don't even matter (a dust cap, really? and the plastic includes overmolding? how amazing! how I don't care!).

The fact that they go out of the way to advertise every singe little feature, and yet the most important fact is missing: nowhere do they advertise that it's active.

If they don't advertise that the adapter is active, I think you can be very confident that it's passive. They would advertise the crap out of the active feature if they had it.
