Radeon X1050 black screen after Windows XP logo

I recently attempted to install this video card but seem to have issues after I install the drivers. Windows XP will start to load but then the monitor shuts off and then back on a leaves a black screen. I am using the VGA port since I am using a CRT monitor. I used the latest drivers. Not sure what the issue is. I also test a few monitors. I did uninstall the old drivers from the old video card. I can get it to boot in safe mode. Anyone know what the issue could be?

First, do you really have a X1050? What is that.

Do you have a second graphics card or a second video port that you can connect to the monitor. I have seen some displays/ports not output an image unless they were enabled. Have you tried loading in safe mode and extending/setting your screen to the proper display.

My X1900XT turns off for a second, but then turns right back on which is still annoying but it works. I encountered ATI cards a while back (7500) that would not restart and needed an update to the card's BIOS to fix it.

You can try changing the BIOS video suspend option to something else incase the card does not like it.

You can try updating your chipset drivers just in case.

You should try safe mode, and if it works, try limited boots from msconfig, maybe without drivers, until you can get an image.

Yes. That's what the box says. Even though I did find it strange that it is not listed on the ATI site.

I will try you suggestions. I have had issues in the past with ATI cards in which I eventually got to work, but not at this level. Thanks for responding.

This is an RV370 (similar to a 9600). Have you tried the latest 7.2 drivers from ATI?

Yes after the drivers on the CD did not work. I downloaded the 7.2 drivers and got the same results. I will probably be returning the card. Any recommendations for a card that is AGP in the $100.00 range? I'm not really a gamer but I do want something that will be able to run Vista smoothly.

Update: Replace this with a 7600 GS. Good to go. Thanks to all that posted.
