Radeon X1600PRO AGP

There is a model 100148 and a 100148L, not sure what difference is. Nice price, only 130 dollars. I am assuming it supports shader model 3.0 and H.264 video acceleration. The question is, how does it perform against older gen 6800GS and X850XT agp?

Damn, I just bought one of those for $150 from allstarshop....oooooo well. But anyway, basically the X1600's get beat by X800's...and I'm sure the X850XT really destroys it (as well as the 6800GS), but it's also quite a bit cheaper (obviously). I'm buying mine as a hold-over card...I'm waiting for M2 (or whatever the new AMD platform is called) to upgrade my entire system...including a PCIe video card. The X1600 fits well for this because a.) it is still faster than older cards that used to be teh awesome-est like 9700 pro..maybe even 9800's and b.) you get the new ATI architecture including PS 3.0 and such, as well as all the cool AVIVO stuff...so don't get it if you're looking for good mid-range performance...get it for something a bit better than low-end...because everyone knows the X1300's are only good for HTPC's....for the price the X1600's are going for...you can't really expect anything fantastic...

I remember seeing some benchmarks where the 6600GT (which is priced similarly) crushed the X1600Pro, so yeah, I'd get a confirmation on that buy the 6600GT instead, it also has Shader Model 3.0 and PureVideo.

I'm not supprised the 660GT beats the X1600PRO but the XT model is a different story. The X1600XT normally beats the 6600GT and occasionaly equals the 6800GT/GS.

I'm hopping Sapphire releases the XT model in AGP. I want a better card but would also like the encoding capabilitis of AVIVO.

The other option is the 7800GS in AGP. Someone on HardOcp actually got one about 2 weeks early. Lookes equal to the X850XT PE with all the 7800 bells and whistles.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the 6600GT only comes up with 128MB of memory. The X1600Pro on Newegg has 256MB.

For someone like me, who likes to play 2+ year old massive online games (which generally require a lot of video memory for textures, but not nearly as intensive on the shader stuff) I seriously wonder if this would be the better purchase as opposed to a $200 X850XT. The SM3 and Purevideo are nice additions.

I would like to see some benchmarks.

I don't think you'll be able to classify the x1600pro and the x850xt in the same league.

Yeah, X850XT and X1600pro/XT are in way different leagues. In AT's benchmarks, it showed that even the 6600GT beat it in many games. Also, the X1600 doesn't even come close to the 6800GT.

The point is not to classify it's peformance in relation to the X850XT, but to it's price/performance ratio; and, more specifically for me, it's performance in older games compared to the 9700/9800 generation of cards.
