RadeonSettings confused about driver version

Curious if anyone else is experiencing this and what (if anything) you did about it.

I'm running Windows 10 x64 and previously had the Crimson 16.3.2 WHQL driver package. Then about a week or so ago I started getting upgrade notifications from Radeon Settings that a new version was available. However the version it wanted me to upgrade to was a BETA (16.4.x). I don't do BETAS... but I was getting annoyed by the daily nag to upgrade. So I checked the AMD site and there seemed to be an even newer non-beta release available.

I downloaded and installed 16.5.1 (non-WHQL). Now, Radeon Settings is again nagging me to "upgrade," except it now wants me to use the older 16.3.2 WHQL version that I started with.

What's the correct, current version that is not a Beta?

Should I only be using WHQL releases?

How do I get the Radeon Settings app to shut up about release notifications?

Thank you

I feel like I maybe put this in the wrong forum but I'm not sure. This felt more specific and relevant than "Computer Help."

I can't find a setting to disable update notifications in the Radeon Settings app.
Click the home button in the bottom left corner of the AMD Crimson Control Panel, then click on UPDATES at the bottom...you'll then see the checkbox to enable/disable updates.

I tried that. There's nothing that I can toggle there.

The "Check for Updates" button just tells me that a new version is available.

The "Preferences" and "Notifications" screens don't have anything to turn it off either. From "Notifications" I can only view and dismiss notifications.

I'll be darned, you're right.
I just assumed that was a checkbox and you could enable/disable updates, but you're right, its a check update button, not a toggle.

I never really bothered with it since I always uncheck the box for updates when installing the drivers.

So I guess you'd have two solutions.
1: Uninstall/reinstall drivers and be sure and uncheck the box when prompted to automatically check for updates.
2: Or open task scheduler and disable AMD Updater under Active tasks. (win10, not sure about Win7)

Oh... is that what the check for updates option is on the installer? I assumed that only applied during installation, so it would get the latest fixes from the AMD servers while installing.

D'oh!

I think it's a poor design choice, deliberately deceptive, and they ought to just put a toggle in the app itself. :sneaky:

Agreed, it's just plain odd that they don't give the option to toggle between manual and automatically checking for updates in the Crimson Control Panel.

I never noticed there wasn't until now.

I'm always running the latest beta drivers, so as i said I just uncheck the check for updates box during installation so it doesn't keep prompting me to install a WHQL driver that is usually older than the latest beta drivers I'm using at the time anyway.
