Radio Presets Gone, Getting Harder to Start: Battery Dying?

Just recently my aftermarket radio (installed for several years now) has had the radio station presets reset to factory presets. Furthermore, the radio does not turn on when I start the car (previously it did).

I did notice that my car took just a little longer to turn over the other day. Other than that episode, I have had no problems starting my car.

Perhaps it's just a coincidence, but one of the flaps on my AV vent broke off and fell back inside the car down the AC "tube". The radio problems began short after this happened. I don't know if it's the cause, but I figured I would just mention it.

I figure I just might need to replace the battery, but I want to get the thoughts from the Garage first.

1998 Rav4, will be taking it in for its 150K tune up soon as well.

No, not original battery. Anyways, I took it in so the mechanic will give it a once over.

How old is it? There's a date code somewhere. Like "A4" (January '04) or something similar. 3-4 years (depending on climate) is the average useful life for a car battery.

I would guess that starting the car drops the voltage low enough to clear the memory. Go buy a car battery tester. I think I paid $10 for mine when it was on sale.

Autozone or Advance Auto will do a free load test on it and you will know for sure.
