I was surprised they didn't drive the rescued car back and have some fun with the two of them on the ice. Maybe they only had one controller?

I was like, want want, then I started thinking, looks fun, but why not jump straight to a simulator and skip the batteries etc.

I had figured this was a joke. The fact that they had an actual R/C tow truck is amusing to no end, and perhaps a bit mind blowing.

I suddenly want to quit my job and build these for a living.
They need this + oculus rift + maybe some 4G LTE connection for maximal range.

Did not deliver. Slightly less interesting than watching the middle laps of any NASCAR race.

For a clip that is 10 minutes long, I expected more. Suffered through the first 2 minutes of him driving around before I just jumped to the meat and potatoes. This should have been a 45 second clip. Do people not have any sense of editing?

Good, hopefully we'll get a litter of little ones, and then maybe send Spirit a tow truck and maintenance bot, and some new wheels for the Mars Science Lab.

(0.050" aluminum for the contact surfaces of the wheels for something that's driving over rocky terrain?!? 0.050" aluminum sheet is used on a lot of products at work, but they're very lightweight products. It's also used because it's easy to puncture to permit conduit hookup and mounting during installation.)
The structural skin on light aircraft is .032 in most cases. Those wheels are formed from 'O' condition metal and heat treated. You would be amazed at how tough it is at T6.

What the fuck kind of setups do these guys have holy shit. I cannot believe I watched 7 minutes of that.

 I was thinking the same thing.

I did like the thermometer and compass inside the cab of the tow truck. Nice touch.

Not sure what it takes now but used to be a very expensive hobby. I remember seeing a large RC Dune buggy that the owner said was capable of pulling a Honda Civic.

This is awesome. The point of view part is what really makes it great. With decent radio transmission equipment you could technically be in your house screwing around with these far away. heck even if it uses something standard like wifi with proper antennas you can get decent range. The servo robotic arm was awesome too. Another thing to add to my list of hobbies that I'd like to get into.

Something with tracks could be fun to play with in the snow too.

I think it would be more fun to buy a snowmobile but I guess if you hate going outside this is the thing to do.

Pretty neat. I've thinking of putting my phone with facetime on a car for a while and driving around the block. RC transmitters have insane range these days, so as long as I could keep cell I'd be able to see where I'm going.
