So is it true that there are like no video settings outside of picking res, aa, brightness, and gpu encoding and that the game automatically picks the settings so it runs at 60fps.

D'oh... I've been debating purchasing it for awhile, and now without any pre-order bonuses, I might as well just wait until I'll actually play it. Thought it went live at 12AM PST.

Wow, Ars Technica slammed this game. This is for the 360 version. They'll be reviewing the PC version shortly.

So, just to sum up my nine plus hours with the game so far:

•No story to speak of
•No characters that make an impression
•Linear
•Broken save system
•Dull mechanics
•Tedious quests
•Weak shooting
•Stock weapons
•Racing is fun
•Minigames are enjoyable
•Very pretty

I bit the bullet this afternoon and downed 60$. The game is getting slammed hard by reviews and users. I thought back to Quake 2 and Doom and my youth, and I invested in ID. I hope I didn't make the wrong decision. The wrath is being thrown at this game it seems.

Yeah, I was really looking forward to this and was tempted to preorder but am so glad I talked myself out of it.

Shoot me if I'm wrong but didn't Carmack say the way the graphics engine was developed ended up being a mistake? He basically says the screen is made up of lego like sets of graphics to make up one big picture.
