OK, I played the first few minutes after getting out of the ark and out into the main area, and insofar, I haven't had any horrible texture pop in thank God! It's there, but it's barely noticeable.
Nvidia released a Rage profile update today, that makes sure the game runs on one GPU with V-sync disabled.. I tried enabling V-sync, and that made the texture pop in WAY more noticeable, so I recommend running the game with V-sync off, and on one GPU if you're using X-Fire/SLi.
GPU transcoding I turned on, but I haven't tested it personally to see what kind of effect it had on the texture streaming process. From all accounts though, GPU transcoding helps to alleviate it significantly.
Performance wise, the game is very smooth at 60 FPS, 2560x1600 with 4xAA and 16xAF (the latter forced in the control panel).
Looks wise, I'm not impressed at all so far. I thought that reports of muddy textures were over blown, but now that I've played the game for myself, I can see they aren't.
This game is horribly consolized, no mistaking. The dynamic texture thing must be broken, because my GPU has 1.5gb of VRAM and my rig has 12GB of system memory, but some of the textures are still very muddy.
The railing on the ledge outside of the ark for instance, looks terrible! I hope they release a texture update, because this is ridiculous for a developer like ID..
I'm using the latest drivers, 285.38. as well..
