My Abit KT7A manual is most informative on the issue of what block size to choose.

It tells me I have five options: 4k, 8k, 16k, 32k and 64k.

That's it. Not a peep about what options are best for what purposes, or what a good, all around option is.

(If it matters I have to 45gb's for a total of 90gb in Raid 0).

Anyone know what I should choose? My understanding is that once I've chosen, I stick with it, unless I want to do a total reinstall from ground 0.

Help!!!!!

Hey dougjnn, you should consult Paul's Unofficial ABIT KT7 FAQ before proceding. My suggestion since you are planning to create one fata$$ partition is to use block size of 16K and format using the command "format c: /z:32" One thing to watch for, when you fdisk, it'll show the size of your hd as 64GB. Just ignore it, it's some sort of bug. You'll be able to use all your space. Good Luck

16K block and 32K cluster.

From what I've read it's a good match since the 32K is split between 2Hd =16K each.

For me I have partitions under 30GB so I have 8K blocksize and 16K clusters.

That 64gb Limit is a bug that has been corrected by microsoft... If you go to Microsoft SUpport and search under "FDISK" you will finda new updated FDISK that you have to d/l to replace your outdated MS-DOS version of FDISK... that way, if you use FDISK to partition it, there is no longer that 64gb LIMIT.

hope that helps

and I have the same 45gb GXP IBM Deskstar in RAID 0

Could you point me a little more specifically where on MS's sites to download the patched version of fdisk?

I've done quite a lot of rooting around, and haven't found it yet. Just reams of information on how much better Fat32 is than fat16, etc.

A link would be wonderful.

Thanks
