Depends on many factors - this is one of the times you'll wish you had purchased a RAID card from a vendor like Promise or 3ware, so that you knew precisely how the controller would behave.
With Promise controllers, I can explicitly set whether the array should be formatted or not on 'creation'. In effect, if I take a RAID set, break it up, and recreate it within the BIOS, as long as I don't set that format flag, no harm no foul. I've actually had to do this a few times when the computer was certain it needed to rebuild my RAID 5 array. Battery is dead on my SuperTrak and I don't like to leave the computer down long enough to track down and replace the battery.
Look at it this way: it's worth trying. Right now, your array is already toast.
