Raid-array moveable?

Hi there!

I have a question that I have posted on some forums but no-one has answered there so I try the best forum (I have been inactive for a while here now...).

I have a Raid-0 array with 2 x 160GB in my puter.
I have moved it from Abit KX7333-R to EPoX 8K5A2+ and it worked very good (same raid - Highpoint - different raid-bios).
Now I have bought me a Abit NF7-S v2.0 and an extra SATA->IDE-adapter shich will give IDE-Raid-functionality.
I havent been able to mount everything yet in my Vapo because I had a lousy PSU that wasn't powerful enough. Meanwhile I'm starting to wonder if my array will be lost or if it is going to be moveable to my new setup

Anyone here that can answer this?

Best rgrds!

if the controller is different you'll need to start backing up and recreate the array when the time comes. so sorry.

anyone out there have some voodoo to make it not so?

I agree with lyden. If you change RAID controllers I believe you'll have to recreate the array and all original data would be lost.

Definitely make a full backup, but when you move over you may be lucky, I managed it a while back between two different raid chipsets and it worked but I didn't try when I moved to SATA.

Best of luck, let us know how you get on.

Hi and thanks for the answers!

Well, well - it was as you all said - the array didn't show up and I had to recreate it. Can be good to know for other ppl aswell!

Have a good one!

Man. I was hoping for a different answer when I did my search. I've got two 100GB drives, striped into a single 200GB RAID. But now my motherboard is showing it's age. It seems that all the new motherboards have SATA RAID, whereas my older board is regular IDE RAID.

In case someone has a different experience, I'm bumping this thread. I'd love to NOT be forced into backing up my RAID drives.

Or maybe someone knows a great nforce2 mobo with IDE RAID? My current motherboard is an Abit KR7A-RAID (Via KT266A chipset) with a High Point HPT372 IDE RAID chipset.

you may just want to get an nforce 2 m/b and a separate highpoint controller.

This would be a good solution as it will allow you to migrate to SATA as and when you want to.
