I have two disks on MIRROR RAID on an ABIT KR7A-RAID with the Highpoint controller.
I set both disks on the RAID and installed XP on them...5 gig partition and 95 gigs for the rest for applications.
It should be booting off of the raid controller....it does this just fine until I reboot a few times and have the hard drives sync'd. Then one random reboot and it will not come back up again, having an error message.

"The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE
or its log or alternate
it is corrupt, absent, or not writable"

This message will go away and Windows XP will boot if I take both drives off the controller and put the first drive on the regular onboard controller.....it just won't let me mirror XP!!

do a long NTFS format on that Mirror array. if that checks out and it still gives you the same error you should run a harddrive diagnostic from the company you bought the drives from. if your drives check out make sure you are loading the latest drivers for your hardware. if again you are still gettin that error try different memory. if the same thing is going on then i bet you have a problem with your motherboard's Front Side Bus. your motherboard's BUS is corrupting your Windows installation.

here are some links you should take a look at:

Tried NTFS for the System partition and also FAT32. Both do the same thing. I am using 512 megs of ECC RAM Corsair and I have done extensive tests on both drives and no problems. It only shows up after I do the sync for the mirror, it shouldn't be corrupting the installation of Windows. It seems like maybe the cache on the hard drives are not being cleared after reboot or the boot.ini isn't configed correctly maybe? Even though I have both controllers on "IDE and RAID" The boot.ini is set to multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1). Shouldn't it be set to the second controller if its booting off of the RAID?...if so which one do I change, I don't have my books with me.
