RAID vs Wd SE

Hello

I dont know much about drives when their configured for RAID,does anybody know if 2 Maxtor 740x's say 40Gb's in a RAID zero config would be faster than one 80Gb Wd SE??

how bout 2 WD 80 SE in RAID 0? haha , just a bit of cash out

anyway, i had raid 0 w/ 2 WD 40 NSE (non special edition ) and it sucked, just slowed down boot time because it had to find the raid array, and i didn't see any kind of increase in performance.

but that's just my opinion, i could be wrong (good ol' dennis )

Why exactly do you need RAID? RAID isn't going to help your seek times one bit and unless you're opening extremely large files all the time you really won't notice a difference in everyday use.

It will perform worse than the Matrox drives. WD SE drives don't work well in RAID configurations.

For decompressing large archives and compressing files and video stuff I will take RAID any day of the week and twice on Sundays. However, I do not know about the 740's in RAID. if peeps say there is trouble, then you are prolly better with the big SE drive. ~my 1.5 cents~

i'm running 2 x20 Gig Maxtor D740x's in Raid 0 on a Epox 8k3a+ and don't have a bit of trouble. And it is faster than a single drive i noticed a difference right off the bat when i first installed Raid. And those WD SE Raid0 scores suck. My maxtors score higher than those are...
