You seem to be the only user with a Z68 chipset RAID0, who didn't get TRIM support by inserting the especially customized Intel RAID ROM.
Please redo the TRIM test according to the procedure I have layed down >here<.
Two things changed after the rebuild. If I delete the file and check again, the sector appears the same. After reboot HxD cannot find the sector anymore. I will redo the firmware replacement tomorrow. Also I don't know if it is important, but sataID shows 1c06.

Is anyone successfully trimming with the SandForce SF-2281 controller?

I you read a few pages back in this thread, you'll find a few Vertex3 owners with TRIM raid0, instantly TRIMMING when deleted, and OP with his Agility3 drives behaving the same, all SF-2281.

My SF-2281 Intel 520's in raid0 TRIM's instantly as well, they have never performed better... There might be some nonfunctioning Raid+TRIM SF-SSD's where the makers break it by adding/removing stuff from the original SF made firmware. Just a guess by me, but not a wild guess imho...

You should not search for the sector but for the hex Offset value, where your file was ("Search" > "Go to..." > enter the "Offset" value > "OK").

I also have two 520's in raid-0 on my Asus Z68 board and Trim is working perfectly. On my X58 I've got two Kingston 3Ks in raid-0 and no matter what dev id I plug into the orom it doesn't work. Maybe its because of the Kingston 3Ks firmware. Not sure. I've tried dev id 3A20 through 3A27 and even 3A05. Beginning to think its not supported on the X58 chipset. Weird thing is Aida64 identifies the Sata Raid Controller as 3A20 even though the Intel Specification update lists it as 3A25 (for consumer X58 chipset). This is a hard nut to crack!

Thanks. And wow, I actually read those posts. Ha ha. I just didn't know what controller they were using, let alone the SF-2281.

I'm so P'd off right now, especially since there's not much more that I can do about it. Unless the devs over at Transcend decide to take advantage of this great mod, I may be SOL. I'm sure they don't want their customers unhappy because their drives aren't able to TRIM in RAID 0 like other manufactures drives can. Wink, wink.

Transcend, please take a look at your firmware release, particularly for the TS128GSSD320.

We all know, that defragmentation of HDDs is not possible in case of a file system error.
Likewise, is garbage collection and TRIM support halted in case of file system error c.q. RAID-array errors ?

Sometimes my vertex 3 takes a reboot to trim. Sometimes its instant. Search the offset (go to > offset).

Which software can display Trim execute status?
I need it test why Trim does not work in my IRST array SSD.

In the first screenshot, I see a software can show information like:
"Trim command completed in 0.0000x Seconds
Intel RAID 0 Volume - RAID 00x The request is not supported"

I tried HxD, it does not has feature to detect TRIM command; WinHax also does not provide such feature.

@ Latituder:
Only Dufus will be able to answer your question. Maybe he has written himself a tool, which is able to measure the time TRIM takes to do its work.

@ users with an Intel 5-Series chipset, who want to get TRIM within their RAID0:
Yesterday I have prepared another especially modified Intel RST RAID ROM module, which may support the TRIM in RAID0 feature for RAID0 systems with an Intel 5-Series SATA RAID Controller (Alternate Device ID 3B25).
This freshly modded ROM can be downloaded from >this< site.
Note: Intel 5-Series systems with an ICH9R or ICH10R Southbridge will not get TRIM into their RAID0 by using this ROM module.
Any feedback is much appreciated.

Any status on this? IMO it seems as the ambiguity of supported (non/supported) devices is the reason Intel isn't releasing this firmware. As they don't want to throw companies that bought and integrated the cheaper version of the controller under the bus.

As you eluded to earlier, its an all too convenient you scratch my back I'll scratch yours marketing scenario with the bottom line being profit and not customer satisfaction.
I wish i could say this trend is limited to Intel but sadly as more and more consumers accept this type of treatment, it becomes the normal.

Oops!

Looks like I was wrong about trim enabled on my P7P55D-E LX. I looked at the wrong location when I checked the disk in HxD. Anyway, trim is NOT working using the option rom mod. Am intensely interested in whether Dufus can enlighten us about exactly how he edited the rom.

@ Stress:

Which Alternate Device ID does Dufus SATA ID Tool show?
Where did you get the modded Intel RAID ROM file?

The modified Intel RAID ROM v11.6.0.1702, which you can download from >here<, will enable the TRIM in RAID0 feature for your Z68 system. Just insert it into your actual mainboard BIOS.

I did it, went smooth

I just need to test TRIM in RAID0 when I get my 2 x Mushkin Chronos 512GB for 400$ (TOTAL!)

Hi @fernando,
I've just read up this whole thread, downloaded the MMTool, and moded my bios file for my P7P55D asus mothboard per the instructions here
with the file you generated for Sata ID 3B25 from here...

I naturally tested my sata id and it was indeed 3B25 on the original OROM v10.5.0.1034
Is there anything else I need to test out before attempting to flash the bios?

No, you can flash the BIOS containing the modified Intel RAID ROM v11.6.0.1702 as it is.
After having re-established your usual BIOS settings, you should do the TRIM test using a hex editor (look >here< for details).

Please report here, if TRIM is working within your RAID0 at once. Maybe you have to do a complete backup of your RAID0 data, to recreate the RAID0 array using the Intel RAID ROM Utility v11.6.0.1702 and then to restore the RAID partitions.

Thanks..
I'll do it in a few hours and report afterwards..
I have just created the raid-0 so I will attempt with and without raid recreation...
Unfortunately I have forgotten my USB doks at work so it will take me a few hours before getting to this...

@ Fernando

Dufus SATA ID Tool shows Alternate Device ID as 3B25. I edited the 11.6.0.1702 option rom myself using HxD and overwriting the hex values 3B25 0000 07 - appears as 25 3B 00 00 07 in hex at Offset 00001BB20 02 03 04 05 06. (sorry don't know how to insert an image).

There are some other Intel 5-Series chipset RAID0 users, who have inserted the special Intel RAID ROM v11.6.0.1702, which I have modified and offering >here<. Maybe we will get their feedback soon.

Thanks for having answered my questions.
Provided that you have done the TRIM test the correct way, there are just 2 options:
a) the Intel SATA RAID Controller of your P55 system doesn't support TRIM in RAID0 or
b) your modification of the ROM file was not correct.

Is is just me or did Intel remove the ability to view the OROM version by using the Help and System Report option? If that's the case, seems to be a shot at trying to keep TRIM from becoming active on anything other than the 7 series chipsets.

I still get a system report in the Intel Control Panel showing me the orom version. Anyhow not sure if trim is working now on my X58. I reset the array in Windows using the control panel. The first try doing the trim test the test phrase was replaced with garbage characters after emptying recycle bin. Second try the test phrase was still there over and over again. Third try same thing until I copied a folder over into the drive. Then the test phrase was replaced with random characters. Is this trim in action? Or is the location and phrase suppose to be immediately wiped after deleting the file?

Thanks

Nevermind. It was my fault. Installed it on my AHCI system without RAID enabled. Getting old, lol!

Does anyone have a contact at one of the major vendors that could simply ask them what the secondary device ID for the x58 is??

I just installed IRST 11.7.0.1013 driver and to my surprise TRIM on RAID-0 is not working. Easy TRIM Test results are negative no matter what I tried (reboot, optimized using intel ssd toolbox, logged-off, etc), reverting back to IRST 11.6.2.1002 or 11.6.0.1030 gives me postive result. Hmmm, I smell something.....

By the way, the systems I tried the latest IRST driver are Z68 and P67.

P.S. Can someone with a Z68 or P67 system to TRIM.RAID-0 test the latest IRST 11.7.0.1013 to confirm my findings. Thanks.
