So, how bad is that?
I've been cracking with rain.
I have got to disable it now.

I'm using rain in the background since 1998...
3 days long benchmark without rain on my C450A : 1260 KKeys/s
3 days long benchmark with rain in the background : 1260 KKeys/s...
Idem on my K6-2 500 running GF....

For me, rain has no impact on performance !

RAIN, Waterfall, and CPUIdle are all non factors in RC5. They'll just not run because a higher priority thread is requesting CPU time. Kinda like running RC5 on a NT machines. The system idle process will get out of the way of RC5 or application.

Or look at it this way, the RC5 client is like a "bizarro" Rain in a opposite world. Instead of idling the CPU it runs it full steam. When a application wants to run, the clients shuts down with no impact on system performance.

I also find that Rain has 0 impact on SETI or GF ,(ok it's not RC5 but.....) it just lets them get on with it.It's almost not worth having it their because it doesn't do anything while they are running.I leave it there because it takes so little & also incase SETI or GF stops for some reason then it can cool.

Rain has no impact on perfromance when running RC5 because it doesn't do anything. If you are running RC5, you might as well turn off rain. There is no difference.

polo: long benchmarks(or any benchmark in this prog. for that matter) actually bumps up the priority of dnetc to near the top so that it can see the computers *maximum potential* in whatever contest you are benching. so they really don't have any relevancy in this thread. just a heads up

What is the point of running rain if your going to run rc5?

Rain turns your CPU off (you get my point) when it has nothing to do.
rc5 runs your CPU at its max when it has nothing to do.

There is no point whatsoever in running both, unless you like taking up ram with useless programs

Thecool1 : What I call a long benchmark is letting my computer crunching 3 days long (week-ends when I'm away from home) and check the log to see the result. It's not clicking on "long rc5 benchmark" in the pop_up menu of the client.
It's a REAL benchmark I think.

bottom line. you should have enough cooling that you shoulden't have to run rain one way or the other.

I've never run Rain, but I'd always heard that it ran at a higher priority than RC5. Live and learn I guess.
