Just FYI. Currently this game only supports shader model 3.0 cards so buyer beware. Example X800 cards are out of luck

I wonder if that's why it took an assload of time to load from Ubisoft logo to menu (something like ~5-10 minutes).

I have it already, cant play it because of video card. I guess the days of old when you could just TURN DOWN THE SETTINGS are gone, WTF?

Seriously, I am pissed off at this departure from the norm if you haven't already guessed.

EDIT: But that is a good deal, if you can run it.

That it is... keep in mind the only companies going SM3 only so far is Ubisoft. The new splinter cell is the same way.

Here's the tweak. If somebody like shiro can try it out that would be cool:

Users MAY Not Need a Shader Model 3.0 Card

WARNING: This has not been tested.

Anyone who has a non-SM 3.0 card should edit the files below (after making backups) and see if the game starts up and what kind of performance and or in-game anomalies you encounter receive while playing.

WARNING: PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK. ALWAYS BACK UP FILES BEFORE EDITING.


1) Find the following files:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas\Engine\Config

BaseEngine.ini

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas\KellerGame\Config

DefaultEngine.ini
PCKellerEngine.ini

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas\KellerGame\Config\PC

DefaultEngine.ini
PCKellerEngine.ini

2) Find the following entry in all the files:

[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
DisableShaderModel3=False

3) Change "False" to "True".

4) Save files and see if the game starts. Ideally, this should be done on a non-Shader Model 3.0 video card to confirm the game will start without using SM 3.0 if this parameter is active.

As for R6V being SM 3.0 only, I was really pissed when I read that. I've got an X850XT that will run everything I throw at it and it can't run a new game because it requires SM 3.0? Worthless. As for the "hack" working, I'm sure someone will come up with an effective hack to run it on 2.0 cards... it just might take a while.

I am so glad I didn't get an X850XT, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal anyway, I'd just have to wait until I want the 8800GTS. I have the money for the card, but my 7900GT fares really well with just about any game. When Unreal 2007 and Crysis comes out, then it looks like I'll need a new card.

All Nvidia 6 series, 7 series and 8 series.

there is a "petition", however.

edit:I am ordered BF2 and Rainbow Six Vegas but soon after canceled read some reseller ratings that made me feel nervous

bad things I read:
not sending
not answering phone
not e-mailing back
package not in original packaging
things not received at all

I don't know I've never felt so weird after ordering something off the internet just felt wrong this time.

also the shipping method shouldn't of been that hard to see it just defaulted to "dirt cheap shipping method" which sounds ummmm bad......

I have ordered from gogamer many times and everything has went very well.
The only "bad" thing about dirt cheap shipping is it is a little slow.
I recieved a bad set of headphones from them once and they promptly replaced them,
customer service was excellent for me.
