Whiteout condition is no laughing matter. And it wasn't Toronto.

But seasons are awesome or whatever.

I really hate living minute by minute in the cold but it really is awesome when snow falls and it only happens a handful of times a year here, so overall, seasons are good.

No it's not, but i see lotsa Canadians laughing at people to the south of them for their unpreparedness on the highways, same thing....when you're not used to driving in the shitty conditions this stuff happens.

The issue is people still think they should be doing 100 when they can't even see in front of them. Slow down and drive to the conditions. If someone rear ends you they are at fault for following too close. You need to give at least 2 seconds of reaction time... idealy you should give way more time when conditions are bad and roads are slippery.

Also Toronto is basically the south. Might be Canada but they arn't really used to a real Canadian winter. Remember, they called the army over 15cm of snow. They'll never live that one down.

Weather was fine here in my opinion. drove around the whole weekend and decided to take the optional monday off work. even today there aren't many here or they're just coming in a couple hours late. I don't get it, it's not hard. It can be tricky the way they scrape the roads. they seem to love scraping off the traction giving snow and leave us with, if we're lucky, rough cut ice for traction. maybe some sand in curves and on bridges. Still doable. only got sideways once and that was my own fault for tapping the gas in a turn. I'm not used to driving the truck in this and it's rear wheel drive and an automatic. i hit the gas as if i was driving my car which is fwd and manual transmission. would have been fine with it. but i stayed on the road and got it straightened out. Saw several cars in the ditch on the back roads. didn't do much on the highway. they cleared that pretty well but left the exit and on ramps untouched for a while. I enjoyed driving around int it. It's fun, usually fairly quiet and not much traffic.

Since it isn't showing up under my avatar in this new forum software. i live around Tarboro, NC. It's in my profile and not like i'm hard to find. We didn't get much snow. a fair bit of sleet though. as usual. Oh, why was i driving my truck instead of my car, which i would have preferred? It's because i've been lazy and haven't fixed the suspension issue i have with my car. would not be good to drive.

Looks like it's our turn to panic!11! (not really)

A winter travel advisory is in effect for tonight into Wednesday.

A Colorado low is bringing snow to the region as expected. Snow will continue through the day into Wednesday. Total snowfall accumulations near 15 cm are likely before snow tapers off to a few flurries overnight near Geraldton and Lake Nipigon and Wednesday in the Timmins and Kapuskasing areas.

Brisk winds gusting up to 50 km/h are likely to produce local blowing
snow that will reduce visibilities at times to near zero.

Poor driving conditions are expected as a result. Motorists should allow extra time to reach their destination.

Looks like I'll have to get up extra early tomorrow since I start a set of 12 hour day shifts. Still want to have time to stop at Timmy's eh.

Downside of the winds though is that it sometimes takes out hydro and phone poles and it means were really busy at work with generator dispatches or broken phone cables and stuff. But have to work once in a while I guess.

It was 15cm after like 45cm from the previous days.

No ones location is bring shown at present, unless you go tot the profile page. Not sure if this is intentional by the admins or just a bug in the way things are implemented.

50 degrees driving into work this morning. ~90% of the snow is gone and now it's just a wet mess. NY weather is so weird.

I understand Portland, OR got dumped on yesterday...Up to 12". As per usual in such cases, the city is basically shut down. I live about 180 miles north...we got wind.

Probably not related, but we got pounded with insane winds overnight and it still continues. Felt like roof was going to rip off. Got some snow too, maybe like 15-30cm? Hard to tell due to all the drifting. Some places worse than others. decent amount to clear off the car this morning. Had no time to stop at timmy's on way to work.

Hoping the wind dies down by tonight so I can snow blow my driveway without having it end up all in my face. Fun times. So glad I have a snow blower now though.

With the snow drifts on the roof the Christmas lights look pretty awesome at night though, too bad Christmas is over. I still leave them on for a bit longer though.

Do you sad souls ever put a dollar amount on the time you spend moving snow around and add it to your COL?

I moved from Central California to the snow this year and I freeking love it. Honestly the worst part is when it melts and makes everything muddy. Went to the Grand Canyoon last week and it was snowing. Made it even cooler. Everything is better with snow.

There is a certain cost, but the more laid back style of living and overall lower cost of living, and ability to own a house 5 minutes away from work all makes up for it. You could not pay me enough to go live in a super big hectic city. Though they can be fun to visit when you don't have to be at a certain place for a certain time.

Though it could be fun to go as a tourist during a "huge storm" with snow shoes and walk on snow and people would think I'm Jesus or something.

Yeah but they probably don't have to cut the grass or do yard work as often. But I'm with you. I'm not a cold weather person. I had enough of the snow and cold during my 4 years of college up in Chicago. I was happy to move back down south to warmer t-shirt and shorts weather.

NYC is quite magical during major snow events. As long as you are walking/subwaying, not driving. But well into it or right after a massive snowfall the always busy city becomes so quiet, with adults and kids playing in the side streets all with innocent souls. It's all visually quite beautiful as well as environmentally magical.
