Too expensive? $189.99 less $60 in rebates is far from shabby. If you're are going to build a Conroe system then you are paying at least $200, probably $300, for a CPU. I think we all plan to Overclock them a decent bit (take a $300 E6600 to 3GHz and you have a $1000 X6800) and it would be nice if our memory didn't hold us back. According to a NewEgg review this stuff will hit 1000mhz and even a 1GB set that will hit that will cost around $130. Unless you are on an incredable budget than this stuff is perfect. And if you are on a tiny budget you shouldn't be building a Conroe based system.

Roy2001,

Thanks for looking into the reviews but I'm reasonably sure that the 1GB version uses completely different chips (as opposed to half the number of identical chips) and as such there isn't much of a correlation.

According to some guy on NewEgg:
"Pretty good overclocking ram, does 1000mhz no problem, has been very reliable so far."

Glad to hear that as I also ordered it

If for some reason or another you decide not to go for the stuff on Outpost... I found this on Newegg. If you take advantage of the mail-in rebate you have some stuff that will OC to PC2 8000 on your hands for $160 (it appears as though the only difference between the two are the timings... 4-5-4-15 vs. 5-5-5-12)

what figures are we talkin about? i mean how much does slow Ram hold you back? is it like 5% cuz then id stick with my standard memory.

What led you to conclude that this RAM will hit 1000mhz? Of the 4 reviews 1 couldn't get it to work, 2 said it was just "fast" and the 4th said it "runs at advertised speeds." I also thought that OCZ put a little more effort into their Platinum RAM than their GOLD but maybe both can OC very well. Any articles or reviews that talk about this stuff?

I don't have a Conroe yet so I can't definitively say but my past Intel systems have cared a lot more about being on a divider than having bad timings. Also, the guy who is overclocking a retail E6300 past 3GHz (check out his thread) had this to say:

"Also I could raise the FSB up to 430, but that required running memory with speed less than 1:1, which should be avoided on Intel platform."

Not that I'm doubting that this may very well be the case...but I thought I remember people saying running a divider was alright for the intel platform back in the netburst versus socket A. The socket A took a real hit. And people have continued to say A64 needs to run 1:1, even though that isn't true. I just wish their were some benches or something I could take a look at. Guess I'll have to do some digging!
