RAM help

I have just recently purchased parts to build my first rig. However, in researching RAM I have come across sooooooo many options and versions that I am damn confused as to what to get!

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe and AMD 64 4000 San Diego (core) are what I have and am looking for the fastest/best quality RAM to play Battlefield 2 type FPS games

I have been looking at Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, OCZ, and Patriot......for modules

Anyone that understands what the actual differences are please help a brotha out in lamens terms understand which modules to get and why, like why Crucial Ballistix would be better or worse than Corsair XMS or Patriot......

(ex. Corsair make 1Gb XL low latency, but 2Gb only comes in the CS2 modules b/c must run only 2 sticks to keep max performance)

Not worried about the price.....just want stability/quality/performance........not gonna overclock

So no one knows what the diff is b/w Ballistix and XMS and what not....hmmm

Well, I don't understand all the technical aspects, but just a quick search of Corsairs site got the following info for your motherboard:
Their "Most Popular" memory for that mobo is TWINX1024-3200C2. For "Low Latency" (faster): TWINX512-3200 XL.

I didn't check the other sites but some/all might have the memory configurator pages.

if you're not going to oc i'd check the asus site and fine a compatable ram list and then shop for what the best prices. or look at anands benches, you're not going to see huge performance gains with your ram.

i'm looking at 2x1gig and i think i'll get the ocz because i like and trust ocz and they have reps at most forums, plus i oc. mushkin, corsair, thery'e all fine.

Agreed. There are so many pitfalls with memory timing and compatiblilty that unless you're overclocking you should use one of the online memory databases at Crucial or Corsair (other manufacturers also have them), enter your mobo model and get the SPECIFIC memory designed to work with it.

If you're not overclocking, do what they say. I'd (with no OC'ing) choose CL2-2-2-5 to whatever Anand said works for CPU and Chipset. Name brand usually with the fast stuff for the warranty and quality control. The differences with 'low-latency' etc. are so minimal as to not be a concern....unless you like benching as a hobby.
