RAM: how hot is too hot?

Hi,

I'm running 4 x 1gb sticks of Partiot Extreme Performance 800mhz ram. I've been have issues with it, and so have been testing the heat. The RAM is pretty hot to the touch, and I am wondering how hot is too hot.

I put my finger on it (cause no other way to monitor ram temp, that I know of) and I can only hold my finger on it for about 10 seconds before it become uncomfortably too hot. It does not burn, but pretty hot. This is at idle operation.

What can I do to cool it down?

Welcome to anandtech. There are a few ways to cool down your RAM. Alot of people use one of these, but I just use a cheap 120mm fan, strapped on top of the RAM with a rubber band.
