Ram not showing right speeds

well i have 2 diff kinds of ram in it 2 gigs pny 4-4-4-12 and 2 gigs g skill 5-5-5-15 but for some reason the pny only registers as pc2-5300 the g skill runs at pc2 6400 why isnt the pny ram registering correctly???

if im understanding you correctly, you have 1gb of 667 and one of 800, and its only registering as 667?

if so, this is because ddr2 is just like ddr. the faster speed will clock down to match the slower stick of ram.

KermitM442 is certainly correct on the downclock to the slowest ram---but may be over optimistic---never assume your computer bios is very smart---and they can really screw up ram timings in any effort to resolve different rams. And especially when you mix ram, you can do much better if you manually set ram timings in the bios. Which takes some knowledge, personal research and some willingness to do trial and error experimentation. Three things the average computer user avoids like the plague. But the average computer user will spend money like water and then wonder why they have wasted their money.

1. Set memory speed and timings manually in BIOS.
2. Use CPU-z or similar in OS to view actual speed/timings compared to SPD (default) timings.
