I have 2x256 Crucial pc3200 DDR CL2 and 2x512 Mushkin Blue pc3200 DDR CL2 sticks running on an Abit IS7 (i865) mobo. The system started crashing randomly, blue screens, etc, so i figured it was my ram. here's what i did:
1. Tested each stick individually in each of the 4 ram slots using MemTest 3.2 (16 tests in all)
2. Each of the sticks, running solo, passes in each of the 4 ram slots.
3. I then tried the 2x256 Crucial sticks in dual-channel mode using both pairs of ram slots... once again it passes
4. I then tried the 2x512 Mushkin sticks in dual-channel mode, and they fail almost immediately using memtest
5. I then tried each mushkin stick solo in each of the 4 slots again, and yet again they pass all the tests
6. Tested the 2x512 Mushkin sticks in dual-channel mode for the 2nd time, and yet again they fail almost immediately
7. Tested the 2x256 Crucial sticks in dual-channel mode in both pairs of slots, and they pass just fine
I'm at a loss here!! is it the ram, or the motherboard?? I at first thought the mushkin must be bad, yet it only fails when its in dual-channel mode. But the motherboard seems ok since the 2 crucial sticks work fine in dual channel mode.... Any help is appreciated!!
