RAM QUESTION

i currently have an asus a8n sli deluxe mb with 2 sticks of 256mb kingston ram running in dual channel. i'm wondering if i add 2 more 512 stick of kinston ram would still get me dual channel. also when i first got my computer it failed to boot with two sticks of kingston ram that had samsung modules. so how can i know i'll get kingston ram with kingston modules.

Um, if you don't have a venice core, it should run in single I believe :Q

I'm not sure if you can run dual channel with 4 sticks. I know you can't run in 1T timing mode so that will create a bit of a performance hit.

You run dual channel just fine with 4 sticks of ram. If you have a winchester core or older, you'll also go to DDR333 as well as 2T. If you have a venice, or newer, then you'll be able to run 4 stcks @DDR400, but still 2T. 2T usualy only causes a 2-3% performance loss, although I have seen as high as 7.5% as well.

As for making sure you do not get Samsung modules for your kingston rams, the only way to find out is to get their homepage. They usually advertised what modules or chips are installed. Even other ram sellers like micron, corsair, etc do the same.

Well i have a 3700+ san digeo , a asus A8N-E and 4 sticks of 512 meg corsair twinx stuff thats ment to run at 400mhz.. but the motherboard doesnt allow it. If i force it to run at 400mhz its fine for awhile then the computer dies due to memory errors .

i have a 3500 new castle core so have anyone had any experiences with running dual channel with 4 sticks of ram on the asus a8n sli deluxe. also have anyone achieved dual channel mode with 2 sticks of 256 and 2 more of 512
