Ramblings of a TA RC5 participant :)

For the first time in a while I'm actually excited about RC5 again!

I'm coming up on some milestones in placement and blocks which will forever keep my place toward the top of the team. No, I'll never match the true giants of the team in the top20 - but as of this writing I'm holding 35th place overall at Mika's - 111th overall for the team (WILL make the top 100 WOOHOO!!!) and 2,881st place in the entire project - out of what, like 200,000+ people? That's not terrible. Though not 'official' by dnet, I've recently broken the 3 MILLION block milestone (and I realize that to at least 100 of you that's nothing) but to me, well, it's over three million friggen blocks

Also, I can really see an end to this now.. even with TA RC5 participation kind of stale, the days are clicking down and there's a finish line within our field of vision. Our team and individual standings will (before too long) be final, so get those blocks in kids

But seriously.. This team, project and experience (minus Georgia of course) have been pretty sweet.. and as we take the last few laps...

I'm on the team that will likely finish in SECOND out of thousands.. Not bad.. Heck, even if they lost the stupid key, there are SO many people doing this project, from all over the world. That's pretty neat because when large groups of people do something as one, history is made my friends. No, we won't have stars on the walk of fame and it's not very likely even ONE more person will remember who I am because of this, but EVERY participant on the TA RC5 team will have "placed" at something else in life for doing virtually nothing. How cool is that? Install a piece of software and leave it alone and you get your name etched in ASCII text forever.. (someone's gotta keep a record of the final standings, right?).

Thanks TeAm, for sharing your crackables with me.. Let's end this thing in style

Your pal,
Dee67 (the other Dennis)

Wait.. you mean there's supposed to be a key/solution..and it's not like the SETI project where they might find a signal and might not? :Q

Wow - that puts a whole new spin on things.

Maybe you could stir some of the other RC5 members into creating an Intro mesage to add to the sticky thread ?,currently there is nothing there other than a link to teamanandtech.com

Congrats on the milestone btw

Dennis, I totally know the feeling man. I've been doing this for over 3 years now and there is a little light at the end of the tunnel. I wish the new stats system didn't limit the number of participants that can be pulled up at one time, we'd still have Milestone Makers threads if it didn't. A few members/friends noticed when I went over the 10M milestone this month.

It's lonely up here at the top, hurry up, would ya?

Congratualtions on the Milestone!!!

Dee67,
Nice post!

I share most of your sentiments.

The only thing i worry about is that
I'm on the team that will likely finish in SECOND out of thousands
may not be true. There is a small, but real chance that HZ will pass us before the contest ends. I hate to be a wet blanket, but comparing their average daily production to ours shows them passing us 1 day before the keyspace is exhausted. Now the contest could end tomorrow, we could have a lot of blocks waiting to dump, ... or they could have a dump ready to suprise us. It's gonna be close!

Congrats on your 3 million blocks. I just crossed 1.2 million myself. 1,200,001 to be exact as of July 2nd, nice number eh?

Anyway, whatever happened to the rc5 milestone makers threads? I was checking and there hasn't been these threads for quite a while, the SETI boys get theirs, where's ours? I demand to see my name with 1 big smiley and 2 small ones:|

But a belated congrats to you for reaching the 1-million-block mark, we will have to send over the infamous AnandTech hot tub for you!

Hmmn, I actually reached 1M quite a while ago, before the dnet stats got screwy, my 1M mark was celebrated with the milestone makers, but not my 1.1M and 1.2M(which I just reached).
Even without the automation, its possible to do a manual check, right? Although it would be a lot harder and time consuming I guess..

Congrats on the milestone Dee67. 3 million blocks is an accomplishment.

Recently had to pull 11 machines (about 4000 blocks per day) off line because of a move. Still kicking out a few blocks though the rest of my herd.

Congratulations on you MM! Fantastic accomplishment

I really wish that I could continue supplying the MM postings, but I can't afford the time to go through the pages 100 participants at a time I've emailed the folks at dNet and asked for the original functionality back, but I have not had a response. So, if any of you have any pull with dNet people, I'd gladly start them up again!
