Ive been searching for a mobo that accepts RDRAM and has an 8x AGP slot... I have yet to find one. I want to upgrade my slow-ass 800mhz PIII to a 2.4 P4 and I have Rambus RAM. I know DDR is just as fast if not faster, but I already have over 512mb of rambus, so im not going to buy DDR. Does anyone know when a RDRAM board (850 chipset) with 8x AGP will be coming out? Ive been looking on newegg and directron and some other online shops, just have yet to find one...

SiS has a new Rambus chipset coming out soon. But I think Intel said the 850 was their last Rambus desktop chipset.

So look for the SiS, can't remember much but Abit and some others have beat boards out there now.

So does this spell the death of Rambus? Ah well, alteast they got that Ps2 Contract where the ram can make a difference (its soldered right onto the mobo )

AGP 8X offer no performance increase at all. I wouldn't sweat it. Get a nice 850E based board and be happy.

when i first started looking for a new mobo and other parts to build my new rig... i was looking for this combo. I called asus, and gigabyte... they both said there were NO PLANS to make this combo at all... then i learned that 8x agp wasnt "real"... so it didnt matter.

listen to oldfart on this one... just get the 850E chipset and be happy! or sell that ram and get a granite bay board

This board has AGP 8x and is supposed to be in production. However, you can't buy it yet, and it probably uses the new(er) 32 bit RDRAM.

AbitSI7

If you want to use your current RDRAM, which is probably 16 bit, then you should look at something like the P4T533-C or Gigabyte 8IHXP. I know Iwill has a decent board out too. If you're not into overclocking then you could get a less expensive Intel board. You'd need PC1066 memory to take full advantage of the 533 FSB P4s. If your memory will run at PC1066 speeds then you're good to go.

This is the one I was talking about. I think is uses the Reg. Rambus not the newwer single slab style.

Its been developed to support both 16bit and 32bit ram, I have seen both types pictured. The set of pictures that hit the news just a few days ago were the 32bit kind.

i was planning on getting the ASUS P4T533-C actually, I noticed the Alienware machines carry this mobo, so i though it would be a good investment... i am also looking for a board that holds more then 2 gig RAM also, so i wont have to update for a LONG time. but maybe im just thinking too far ahead i know gigabyte makes a board that takes 4gigs, but its outta my budget.

k, great, thanks for the info guys, it has been very helpful.

Wouldnt worry to far ahead really at least in reaching 2gig ram. By the time that becomes a standard the computer will feel like a 200MHz computer does today.
