$.11 at walmart for one

yeah they use to be like 5 or 8 cents? How was that even possible anyway?

Seriously, I can understand the noodles being cheap, but even the seasoning and packaging has to cost something, and the transport. I guess hard economic times is affecting everything, even dorm food.

Hahahaha....I remember looking into this. The packaging actually cost more than the food. It's pretty scary when you think about it....

Wow, reviews look favorable. I'm going to have to try this place when I go to LA again. Usually I stick to Shinsengumi.. though its been a couple years now.

SSG is a different style entirely. I'm personally not a fan - it's okay, but the thin noodles don't work for me.

Personal pecking order (los angeles)....

Mottainai Miso w/ Butter Corn> Santouka Shio Special Pork > Daikokuya Kotteri(sp?) > Jinya Hakata > Yamadaya > the rest

Foodland, A&P, Walmart, sometimes No Frills. Everything here is over a dollar. Everything in the states is so cheap, and often people there forget how good they have it.

Do you want me to buy you a pallet of ramen, you can have it shipped and keep it for yourself or sell it for .50 a pack and make a killing.

more decent ramen is like 50-60 cents.
marachan is always under 20 cents.

not anymore. i was pissed when i saw them go to 5/$1, but last tues i went shopping and they were 4/$1. a quarter a piece sucks. those things should be under 15 cents a piece.

Your basically getting a box of salt and noodles, cheap but very bad for you.

Instead, cook up a can of Campbell's Chunky Healthy Request and a then some frozen spinach-drain all the water of course. Place them in two separate bowls and you have a hearty meal for about $3.00 and in about 10 mins. Avoiding all that excess salt is the best thing you can do.

only if you are silly enough to drink all the soup

i'm pretty sure more than half that salt rating is in the soup packet

Sapporo Ichiban also good. but you arent' going to find many flavors at western markets.

Only place I ever went to while I was at UCI was SSG so its all I knew.. but that was ~5 years ago. Maybe I'll do a ramen tour next time I'm in the area and stop at those places. :awe:

ramen tours are fun, but expensive

i stopped eating tonkatsu ramen for a while after my last tour. I was literally sweating pork.

Ugh. I know the healthy request chunky soups have reduced sodium, but good god they're bland as hell.

Chunky soups are like 1.50 at target/walmart. They are pretty good as well for filling you up if you are hungry.

That stuff is not food. It's processed starch, salt, and artificial flavoring. I think there's like a day's worth of sodium in one pack of that crap.

I use about half the packet these days.

Back in my youth though...

Stop being poor.

They are not poor!
This is ATOT, everyone here drives expensive cars (Paid for!), make $250K yr. at great jobs where all they do is nef at ATOT all day, date supermodels (whom they've seen naked!), have $500K portfolios, owns a McMansion (Gonna pay it off next month).

Yet they seem to get unusually upset when Ramen costs go up $.05 a pack.

I only get Ramen from Hmart (Korean market) their ramen is about 0.60-2.50 a bag

there's an idea. do they have prepared ramen? i've never been to the one here. also have a 99 ranch market and have been too occupied by all the live crabs to see if they have prepared ramen.

houston is a pho town.

I think the 36 packs at Sams are something like $5.50...

Although it's been a year or so since I bought one and have only eaten a few of them.
