dZeus, was that question directed towards you? I'm quite aware of how remedial it was; the purpose was to determine if Josh3D is actually older than 12.

Do you really need him to answer those questions to know? It's blatently obvious. The ironic part is that he's saying Dave is trashing nVidia, but wasn't he railing on 3DFX eariler? Hmm...just shounds like a pissed-off kid going through the early stages of puberty. The last date he had was probably an infomercial, not on the phone either (goes on mommy and daddy's phone bill).

no, we don't really need him to answer these questions. it just adds to the stupidity factor he's set up for himself.

zeus, explain to me how its such a horrible crime to buy over engineers from your competitors by offering higher pays?

Thats the way it works, everywhere, welcome to the real world.

The companies with the most money and a decent or better reputation will be able to get the best people since they can offer better pays than a company with lesser financial strength.

If they managed to steal employees from Matrox by badmouthing Matrox, spreading rumors about Matrox's impending doom or whatever, that would be unethical.

Well... I am sorry to tell you that it is NOT the way it works. It happens, no question about it, but it is against the law, in any country.

Otherwise the company that has the most money can hijack all the employess of the other companies, because the other companies could never pay as much as the biggest one.

Umm, so its illegal for company to aproach someone and say "Hey, well give you this and that if you come working for us)?

Yeah, thats just the way its happened one time or the other for just about everyone I've worked with.

I dont know much about laws 'n such, but somehow I dont think its illegal around at least, since its hardly anything that happens under the table so to speak.

And if it illegal, then I must say that sounds like just about the stupidest law immaginable, I mean if I was in charge of hiring new people at a company, and knew that mr John.D who works at Microsoft happens to be a damn fine programmer, then I'd sure like to be able to offer him a better pay to come working for us.

But another scenario could be that noone cares about that particular law, which sounds fine to me, stupid laws are made to be broken.

I worked for companyA as a latex condom engineer but then companyB came (hehe) along and offered me twice as much money, plus several attractive female assistants to help in the testing procedures. Was it wrong for me to leave companyA and go to companyB? Or am I just getting what was cumming to me?

leaving a company just because another offers you higher pay is against the code of ethics for the society of professional engineers, one of my EE friends was making fun of that the other day.

Josh3D claims to have been here only a short while, but then demonstrates that he has been here a while by neatly cataloging Dave's posts. and if you have been here you'd know that Dave rarely goes unchallenged, completely the opposite of what you claim, in fact. plus, Josh3D claims a tiler is 5x more complex than a traditional renderer. while i agree that yes, its more complex from a theory standpoint than a traditional renderer, its much more cost effective to have one with only a couple million transistors than the nv25's 100 million or whatever it will be count. and that 64 meg of embedded ram would be necessaary to make something that seems a lot like a 1 tile per frame renderer. 1600x1200x32 (maybe 64 bit) color x lots of fps x some FSAA.

does it strike anyone as weird that the video chip has more transistors than your CPU? the p4 is currently the most complex piece of equipment man has built, with 42 million, and the GeForce 3 Type-R will have 50 or 60... Radeon has like 35, which is more than an AMD t-bird.

actually, this sorta reminds me of Lozer...

ElFnix, Im sure glad I dont live whereever you live, if thats the code of ethics over there, cause that woud make me(and any other sane person for that matter) very unpopular.

If another company that seemed equal in such aspects as expansion, company goals etc etc offered me a higher pay than the one I have now, could you give me one single good reason not to jump ship?

Say they offered me $10 000 more/year, I'd call that a pretty good reason to do it, and it would take a very good reason not to do it in that case.

[edit]
Happy?
And no, I wont shovel your driveway, liek I said previously, Im aiming for the condom industry

Hey DAVE,

I did not know what you are arguing with a "Nvidia engineer". I used to a Nvidia fan from TNT to GE2 GTS. I just bought a V5 5500 and frankly, it performs very well in all all my racing and flight simulation with it FSAA. Much better than GE2 GTS.

Can you show me some link to 3DFX rampage and its future. I really interested if 3DFX will release a higher version with reasonable costs. Best for all we here right!

I began to love my V5 5500!!!

T-Bird 900@954(FSB), MSI KT7Pro2, V5 5500, MSI GE2 GTS815, 256 MB ram, 30G Baracuda.

Up grade to 1200 AMD soon.

It really isn't a law. It is called Conflict of Interest. If the Matrox employee were to show any of the technology that they learned working at Matrox then they and NVidia can be sued. It is in a contract that most technology people sign. You just can't go working for a company that has the same direct business as the one you work for now.

I had to sign one of these contracts working at IBM as well.

It is called a "non-compete" agreement in my industry (pharmaceutical). You basically sign an agreement stating that will not accept employment from company B while employed (and/or for X amount of time after employment) by company A. The added benefit on my side is that if my company lays me off they have to cover that time period with severance pay plus the agreement is waived.

If I wanted to leave, my company would never pursue legal action against me; it would look really bad for the company.

I get that anyway, thats the law around here
Here it's called "layoff time" in a rawtranslation, I have 3 months layoff time.

OK, I admit that I don't exactly know how everything works and what precisely happened at Matrox and nVidia, but I do know that Matrox sued nVidia over this. Haven't heard anything about the outcome yet, but I hope I will hear soon.

I am sorry if my last post contained misinformation.
