jack stands for me. though i can usually just reach under to undo drain plugs and such. if i am lifting the vehicle it is usually for more involved maintenance that requires jack stands anyway.

Generally Ramps unless I have to put both ends of the car up or I have to remove wheels for whatever reason.

Prefer ramps, but they don't make 10 feet long by 6 inch high ramps that my front lip will clear before the tire touches the ramp :awe:

So it's jacks and blocks of wood at home, or I just go help myself at a lift at some shops I have connections to

the blocks of wood are quick for what I need, and even my Camry can't climb a typical ramp with the approach angle it has. 3~4" is plenty for an oil change.
Those things were made for pickups, and light ones at that.

i'm not gonna vote on this one b/c historically i've use both depending on the maintenance. for oil changes, i like jack stands b/c i can jack up one side of the car and all the oil flows to the side that isn't jacked up (my oil pan plug is not at the lowest point on the oil pan when the car sits level believe it or not - so it helps get every last bit of dirty oil out by jacking up one side of the car). i used to use Rhino Ramps for other simple maintenance items b/c they were (and still are) safer to use. but now my car is too low to drive up on the Rhino Ramps without the front bumper scraping the ramps. so now i pretty much stick to jack stands for everything...mind you, i have to put the car on some custom ramps (w/ a 30° incline made out of 2x4's) anyways just to get a jack under the side skirts lol...

My truck just pushes ramps around. The only way I can get up them is with a jack.

I've always used jack and jackstands because the Camaro had too long and low of a nose to be able to use ramps. I suppose I could get a set for my truck now, but I just use the jack and stands out of habit. Seems to take less time too, as for just an oil change or whatever all I need to do is just jack up one side. No fussing with getting the ramps aligned and all that.

I could probably change the oil on the truck just by crawling underneath it without jacking it up, but a couple extra inches of clearance helps around the front axles.

i have five sets of jackstands and no ramps, you tell me

I have at least that many sets and all have been personally modified to make them more stable with extra adjustment options for working on project cars. I have never owned ramps. I do not like them.

Prefer the safety of ramps, but they obviously don't cut it for doing brakes or anything requiring wheel off.

Brakes get floor jack only with a pin to hold it if the seal breaks. If I have to get under the car, jack stands + floor jack at same time. Do not want to be in the paper for having car falling on me.

great safety tip: IF you don't have a jackstand, slide the wheel and tire under the subframe and lower the car until it is very close. The car cannot crush the wheel.

Before we got a lift I made my own ramps using 4 foot long 2x8's and they were 8 inches wide. They had a long taper to them so you could drive just about any vehicle on them. The area where the tires sat was dished out. I textured the ramp part with a paint/silica sand mixture for traction. The only draw back was they were heavy.

that's what i did when i removed the motor and everything else in the engine bay when the Supra got a color change...can't beat hydraulic lifts and buddies who own/run shops...unless you have the money and space to install your own lift
