let me start off by saying I have had no problems with booting at all untill I changed out my heatsink with a new powerful unit.

my problem is I get no video on the monitor

the lights on the board lights up like it is working... no beeps
devices light up and i can open and close my cd roms
hard drive spins up
i can tell windows does not load since my hard drive does not become active other then the initial boot

if i turn it off and on several times it will finially show up on my monitor.

I have another PC and I know it is not the monitor

now for the ugly part. I am normally very careful and knwo what I am doing.
but after putting my pc back together I forgot to put my ram back in. the key on ddr ram is in the middle and my case was a dark inside
i pushed the ram in upside down this forced the PCB to bend a hair I am sure

do you think my error in putting the ram in upside would create this problem? ram not getting good contact?
but once the pc powers up it can run for days!!!
or is my video card about to shoot craps?

any ideas? my other pc has no agp slot and is only a simple linux machine

Hello,
What type of power supply are you using? You said you upgraded processor- what type of heatsink did you use. In mine I had to get a better heatsink/fan. I had a duron and upgraded to a t-bird and when I did the temps were just too high. The system was unstable. I put in a new heatsink and have had 0 problems. Also what is your system specks? Some boards have a problem with booting. I have read about some of the MSI board having this problem, but I think a bios upgrade fixed it.

He said he just chainged out his heatsink. ( If I am reading that correctly ) along with memory.

It is possable that the heatsink was not mounted correctly, and you fired your CPU. I doubt that tho, as you probably would have smelled it.

More likely is that you fried your RAM by puting it in backwards. Do you have any more ram to test out that computer? If not, buy some more and see if that solves your problem. Yopu can always use mroe ram anyway

Oh, and no beeps means either bad RAM or bad CPU. one long and 3 short beeps = bad Vid card. By bad, I mean not seated, or installed incorrectly. It could also be fried.
