then dont go to public schools. It's a free education(not considering taxes). If you so adament against it, send your kids to private schools.

i agree that since it is public schools and they fall under the gov't and the gov't has drug laws that the schools follow. then it ok. but still you will need probable cause and it better be good.

i dont care to pay for drug testing other parents children. WHere do you think this money for testing will come from? at 50 dollars for ar egular test and 90 for a steroid test this prrogram is going to be very costly to tax payers

*EDIT* extra comments/ramblings

i dont even know much about inner city schools but arent they hurting for funding as it is. I have heard rumors that books are so out of date they cant even be used and facilities are falling apart. Special programs are being cut becuase of budget ristrictions and whatnot

I dont think i'm wrong when i say this is the most rediculous display of out of whack priorities I have ever seen. They need to worry about many other things to improve schooling. Random drug tests should be at the bottom of the list.

I could see this coming. :disgust:

They rationalized the 95 decision by saying that athletes were more susceptible to injury on drugs and that they had a lower expectation of privacy. Now even a choir boy is suspect? Ridiculous.

That's not in place yet - come on up Lucky.

Some days I wished I lived in the United States, some days I'm glad I'm in Canada. This is definitely a day for the latter. What the hell is the point of this?

Hmm. I can't even begin to argue why this is so wrong. Does that mean that maybe it isn't as wrong as I thought or that it's so core a privacy issue that I shouldn't have to?

then they should not have the luxury of being able to afford drugs, yeah? Obviously they are paying for them somehow.

That not to far off. I'm thinking about moving to New Zealand!! My parents came here in the 60's from Sweden for the freedoms and opportunity this country offered and Sweden did'nt. Now America worse than Sweden individual liberties wise and WE have almost the same taxes without the social benefits. The olny things that keep me here are family and the opportunities that still exist. If I was single and younger I would be so gone though.

Youre forgetting the self-acknowledged "goodie two-shoes" that the ruling was made on tested negative.

care to explain? drug tests are now available for schools to use. I said go to a private school if you are afraid of them. You said that some people cant afford private schools. I said that the same people who cant afford private school are the ones who are afraid of drug test because they fear being caught.

Do you fear drug tests when applying for a job?

From the article:

The court ruled against a former Oklahoma high school honor student who competed on an academic quiz team and sang in the choir. Lindsay Earls, a self-described ?goodie two-shoes,? tested negative but sued over what she called a humiliating and accusatory policy.

I dont understand why people would be humiliated over taking a drug test. I have taken a few mostly for jobs, and never once did i feel that the policy was humiliating or accusatory.

Drugs are a consentual crime which you nor the government have any right to tell someone what they do with thier body. Wait until a consentual "crime" you enjoy is outlawed becasue some group does'nt like what you do. If it does'nt hurt anyone but the person who chooses to do (insert consentual behavoir here) why should anyone care. MYOB

Randomly being forced by piss in a cup just because she's on the choir sure seems humiliating and accusatory to me. But thats just my opinion.

If you are saying that a drug test cannot detect those substances, you are wrong.

ok you need to start thinking befor you post: 1) families dont supply there kids with drugs or drug money 2) high schoolers usually dont have habits that are equivalent to the cost of private school (up to 20,000 a year for some schools)

first, most parents do give their children money. Second, quite a few private schools are not expensive. My girlfriend went to a catholic school for under $5,000 a year for most of her life.
