I'm actually surprised you need a land area as Texas to fit the world's population with the population density of NYC. It says more about how many freaking people are in the world than it does how dense the city of NYC is.

Imagine the ENTIRE STATE of Texas with the population density of NYC!! It's unthinkable to me.
