Random freeze issue

Ive been having a random freeze issue and was curious if the psu might be at fault. I have an msi kt600 lsr/xp 2500 barton powered by an antec smartpower 350. The +12 volt rail has been reading 11.6 to 11.65 steadily since the build. Could the 11.6 reading be a source of random freezes?

Could be. However, I wouldn't be so sure it was the Antec unless you got those readings from a multimeter. What are the rest of your specs and temps?

open up your task manager, and check if any of your services are taking up an unusual amount of CPU when idle.

120gb wd se primary 1, 30gb maxtor slave 1, 16X pioneer ide 2, 512mb pc2700 kingston value, bfg ti4600. MY temps run a bit high since im living in a sweatbox in florida. My cpu temp tends to hover around 57C usung an alx-800 and a temp sensing antec fan. I also have 1 120mm case fan in and 1 120mm case fan out.

I thought about the idle proocesses, but I have the freeze issue even when just running a fresh os with no programs installed.

im running stock timings across the board. My bios is giving me temps a few degrees cooler than msi's corecell utility, but thats still only to about 55 degrees. Believe it or not i was running about 65 degrees till i switched out the stock crapolla amd heatsink to the alx-800

my Soltek board reports 60C minimum at load at all times, even when it's a nice cool 22C in my room (not overclocked!) so I think the board readout COULD be high (even though you say you are in Florida and its hot)

hopefully the temp issue is just an msi utility issue. Any more ideas as to the freezing issue?

Have you run memtest? Could be memory. I hate random crashes, so hard to diagnose sometimes

I'm not sure how low voltages can get before it's a problem, or even how well these software programs report them, but for what it's worth, my 380 watt Antec Truepower fluctuates continuously between 11.75 and 11.813 under full CPU load but no GPU load, and I've never had an unexplained crash on this system.

Your rails look fine. Are you overclocking? Random freeze and/or reboot is usually PSU or memory. I would look at your memory.

Yea you should run Memtest-86 or Prime95 to determine if your ram is bad. Also, try upgrading your power supply and see it it solves your problem.

Bump for relevance.

I have this exact freaking problem. Almost the same system specs, too. And I think it caused a video card to die on me as well, not to mention the lost system time trying to diagnose it.

Athlon XP 2500+, Radeon 9800 Pro, MSI KT6V-LSR (VIA KT600 chipset), two WD hd's, two optical drives, 2x 512MB Simpletech Nitro ram, Antec Smart Blue 350W. Power supply looks fine, always did. My problem started when I stiched to an MSI motherboard. Plus RPM sensor is dead, thinks my CPU speed is 0 intermittently, for extended periods of time.

Ram's new, so is the CPU, and both are top-of-the-line, lifetime-warranty things, and the PS isn't shabby either. Plus the error happened in a CD booting minimal Linux kernel, meaning it wasn't Windows. And between my PS at total idle, my new CPU, or Simpletech's Premium memory, I say the mobo's at fault. I don't want to loose a $300 video card to a $50 mobo.
