GSkill F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P Rev 1.6 BIOS FD
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 Yorkfield 2.66GHz Processor
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V

I have assembled this build for a close friend and he is experiencing random freezes that require a hard reboot. No patterns to the freeze. Seems to run flawless until the freeze happens. Sometimes occurs within a few minutes of boot up to several hours.

Could someone please post screen shots of some stable memory settings used from within the MIT in the BIOS?

He is not into overclocking but will accept any settings that will make his platform stable. I am trying to help him over the phone and feeling his frustration.

just strap your memory down to the lowest divider and work your way up if you think memory is the issue, and try one DIMM at a time.

That board wouldn't work for me either with gskill f2-8500CL5D-4GBPK DDR2 1066 2x 2GB in dual channel mode not even at 800MHZ,i only got single channel stable. I tried every bios tweak recommended by gskill and giga,After 3 RMA's gigabyte gave me a refund ,gskill wouldn't give me refund but new egg gave me 50.00 credit.I orderd a P5Q pro turbo today because my rams on the QVL and it OC's well, wanted the deluxe but not on QVL.

Looks like I am going to have to make a road trip to to try and diagnose the timings. I've read about 16 hours worth of forums trying to find an answer that makes sense. Too much info to digest and then try over the phone with him adjusting timings.

I will try Gskill again for some screenshots. That might save the day, unless I have the same lemon board that Snake got. Thanks gentleman, for the input so far.

I know it is not the same motherboard, same type of CPU, or even same chipset, but I had similar problem with my Gigabyte M51GM-S2G after updating to newer BIOS, from F13 to F15. I update the BIOS in hopes that it would not have problem with hard drive and with possibility of using BE-2400 on my system. I would boot into Windows, then the system would froze and after reset, it just stuck at POST screen, total power down would be required in order to boot again. Even F14 would have problem.

Anyway, I solved the problem by remain at BIOS F13 and it does not have that kind of problem. So the only solution I have for you is to downgrade the BIOS and see if might solve your problem. Hope it might help.

I really appreciate the replies. Still researching all the forums for similar issues. I have manually reset timings and FSB in the bios and am now awaiting the next freeze. Still not sure exactly if it is a memeory issue or not. Verified all drivers are updated and have been operating on the latest bios...one up from the original bios that came with the board (fc to fd). when I look at the fault log from performance it indicates there were freezes from day one of the install. We just thought they were minor install glitches because the system seem to stabilize....
Keep the help coming. My next try will be swapping out the memory modules. Memtest has not shown any memory problems after i tweeked the bios.

Problem fixed yesterday after spending restlessly trying to fix this issue !

I tried all possible and impossible ideas ! Downloaded all the bios files to usb stick stuck it into usb slot start the system ! Few beeps no vga card was present inserted vga card ! No beeps kept the usb stick in usb drive ! Then one last final thought that came to my mind : Since i had nothing to lose and the guy at the store told that he dont give the guarantee for me updating the bios as if i knew shit about computers: So nothing to lose while the system was on and attempting to start by looping startups and shutdowns grabbed the cross screw driver and walked it across the two bios chips well what to you beep on screen shows everything bios successsfully restore to fb on pci-ex16 tried x8 also worked now the board is running win7 ultimate pentium d 820 3gb ddr2 667 ati radeon 2900gt hd !

Althought i have spilled the whole can of zippo fuel on it and left to to dry up for 1 hour ! But thats for anticorossion for the future ! Yes i made a short circuit on the two bios chips and now works perfectly and no more future updates until the board gets old and i will have another chance to go for ddr3 ! Well to say if you come across this problem remember to repeat the same procedure by having all the bios files loaded into your usb key and with or without vga card by do touch carefully but repetedly the bios chips with a crewdriver doesnt matter actually for the type of screwdriver can be flat also ! As long as it touches the bios chip's contact areas and the system loops in attemp to startup !

Good luck to all and have a great day !

Had a similar freezing problem (but a 1.1 motherboard). Don't think it's quite the same problem. But noted later SATA drivers on the JMicron site that mention

"Fix issue: Windows will freeze when device remains busy abnormally (by LeCroy Infusion and a hammer)"

Anyway, downloaded the latest version (which is later than the one available on the Gigabyte site) and my pausing/freezing has gone away.
