Random PC freezes after processor upgrade

So I recently upgraded processors and I have been having periodic freezes. The computer simply freezes, and the audio hangs. There is no BSOD, or shutdown.

My systems is:

Asrock 870 Extreme3 r2.0
AMD 8320 (stock speeds)... had an unlocked 960t prior
2x radeon 7850
Antec EarthWatts Ea-650

I have tried a clean install, and have reset the processor. I am wondering if my PSU simply isn't enough? The motherboard is on the most current Bios.

Maybe you could show us where you see that your board supports Piledriver, because I am not seeing it.

Thanks dude, I have been having a hard time with Google today. My search didn't pick up the R2.

Well, we are pulling more wattage with the new chip. With the two 7850s in there, I hope you are giving it enough wattage.

See this thread:

Hmm, so perhaps it is the PSU? However, I am slightly surprised:

I was running crossfired 7850's each overclocked to 1000 core 1250 memory, and had 960t unlocked to x6 and at 4.0 ghz. I have since backed down the 7850s to stock speeds, and am running the 8320 at stock.

Upon re-inspection of the set up, I noticed a slight amount of thermal grease has leaked out onto the motherboard, and by slight, I do mean slight. Using a plastic scraper I managed to effectively remove it, and the problem seems to continue. Could this perhaps be the culprit?

I wouldn't mind replacing the PSU, as I plan to upgrade to the 98xx whenever it comes out, and I am certain I will need more power. But, I would prefer not having to do so now.

Yes the new one is pulling 125watt.pretty sure it's border line.try this http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/

I used the calculator you linked, and it came to 573 watts. That does seem fairly close. However, I recalculated using a 1100t @ 4.0ghz and 1.41 volts, and came to 582 watts, so I am still not sure. Regardless, it does seem like I am too close for comfort.

I agree that is a little closer than I would feel comfortable with. As a test, could you just take one card out and see how it performs? Like you said, it would be nice to know if there is/is not any damage to the board.

I'll do so tomorrow after work. That is a pretty good test. I was under the impression that thermal paste is non conductive, and the capacitance didn't necessarily cause damage but could effect stability.

Also, thanks for the replies. Hopefully I get this sorted out the simple way (PSU upgrade).

Okay, I have removed one of the Radeon 7850s. This seems to have solved the problem. Since it appears I need a new PSU, does anyone have any recommendations? I would like something that will allow me to overclock a fair amount. Is 750-800 Watts enough?

I don't think I would go below 800, just for safety sake. Always good to have room for expansion.
