Is there something that can be done for people that just come in a thread and just reply the crappiest things like:

What he said

I mean its kind of ridiculous for people to see just doing that to get more posts under them.
Maybe you could warn them or something the first time, then maybe take any stricter action the second time. I am suggesting this because i feel this is what degrades the quality of the forums, specially off topic.

That is called neffing, and used to be a bannable offence. Seems to have gotten a little lax. they are just people who care about postcount. That is why I would like to see postcounts moved to the profile page where they are not immedately seen since too many people place too much stock in postcounts.

I think that is a good idea.
Neffing till a limit is fine, but i mean when 50% of the posts become like that, then something should be done.

But yet you did it

johnjbruin, while it sometimes doesn't aid anything substantial to a post, it's most often done in the OT forum, where a lot of members feed off other members humor and the "what he said" saves the poster some time and keystrokes & still participates in the thread. Just my opinion, hope you understand

I think its ok till they just say what he said.

But what do you think of a reply like the one below

<begin post>
<SomeRandomEmoticon>
post++
<end post>

I think these are really getting annoying.

A very simple solution, at least in the OT forums, is to not make posts in OT forums count towards your postcount. I believe overclockers.com forums use this method.

Hiding post counts wont stop neffing unless you eliminate the entire membership status labeling, and go strictly by "member since..." Not a good idea imo.

thats why the joined date was added under the post count.

that would probably just move the neffing to other more meaningful forums.

Postcount means fvck all. People fail to realize that, just because a user has a lack of posts, doesn't mean he/she has a lack of experience. They know what's going on.

I think it's even worse when someone quotes, verbatim, another post and adds absolutely nothing to it.
Then someone quotes that post, and someone quotes that post, ad infinitum, and then you've got these huge posts that add absolutely nothing to any discussion.
Oh well.

johnjbruin, There are a lot of people that agree with you. Unfortunately the ones that could do something about the situation do not seem to see it as a problem.

Read the thread in my sig.

I still advocate removing the top ten posters list from the today page.

edit/ I should add that the situation has somewhat improved since the time of that thread. I just don't think it has gone quite far enough as is evidenced by the people still expressing concerns about it.
