I've been getting random reboots for about the past year on my PC. I replaced the PSU to around 400w and still get them. The closest thing to a workaround I've found is if I disconnect the power cord then reconnect and reboot I can usually go a week or 2 w/o any problems. But as soon as I run anything that uses my 3d card a lot it will reboot while playing and I'll have to do it all over.
I talked to a few people and have been told I must have a virus/worm on my HD. I swapped a friends 60gb HD in, installed XP and haven't had a crash in the past few days so I'm thinking that my be the solution. Now......
My MB doesn't support ATA HD's. I've looked on newegg for a PCI ATA card but I'm not sure which to pick. What's the difference with ata 133/150/etc?
I plan on getting a PCI card, at least a 300gb ata hd, doing a fresh install of XP, then plugging in my old HD's just long enough to transfer some of my old files to the new drive (what are the chances that will bring the virus/worm over?)
Which pci ata card should I get and does anybody not think this is the right solution? I thought about just building a new system but I've been planning on waiting till Vista comes out to do that.
I basically want to spend less than $150-$200 and be able to get another year or 2 out of this system and have a good size HD to move to my new system when I build it.
Thanks for any help.
