Random Reboots........

It only happened now and again but in the last week my PC seems to just restart itself out of nowhere 3-4 times a day. Some days it can go the whole way without rebooting.

Whats it most likely to be? It doesn't lock up at all only reboots.

im guessing its bad ram. download these and try to troubleshoot.

Bad memory 2nded. It would have to be quite the surge to turn his system off and it sounds like this problem happens day after day so it can't be a power problem. It could also be a power supply.

What about the mblast worm??

Well tried the memory thing and it was fine. Can't be MSBlast Worm as i'm behind a firewall and installed the fix before MS Blast became a problem. I've turned off Reboot on Error and so far no reboots.

Btw, sometimes like 1 in 10 reboots the PC says "Windows has recovered from a serious error".

Did you occasionally see BSOD (blue screen of death)?

If you have added any new device recently, it might be IRQ conflict.

A list of common cause for reboot:
1) CPU overheat
2) Bad RAM (but you already ruled this one out)
3) Failing PSU
4) IRQ conflict
5) Failing Driver
6) HD gone funky

nah no blue screens here. Not intalled anything as of late. Now i've turned that option off if it still restarts then i'll give a new PSU a go.

right, it just went tits up 5 mins ago but since i've turned the reboot on error off it blue screened this time around with a message about errors then tells me its done a physical dump.

So what can i rule out? Whats it still likely to be? Btw, its done it most when i had WinDVD running?

Any ideas?

Physical Dump happens when you have an unexpected error occuring. Since you mentioned about running winDVD, two possbilities arise:
1) WinDVD software is causing problems, try to install similar softwares (such as PowerDVD)
2) Your DVD-ROM's controller has gone bad or it presented an IRQ conflict. I'd suggest you uninstall/reinstall the DVD-ROM associated with winDVD program and see if situation changes.

It has also rebooted without using WinDVD, sometimes just sitting doing nothing and it still reboots.
