random reboots

basically i have a old athlon xp2000 system at home, and my a64 rig at uni, i went home the other week to find that this old xp system wasnt workin anymore

i had replaced the NB Heatsink with a fanless zalman one, but that doesnt seem to be the problem

sometimes.....
1) windows fails to load
2) get to sign in screen, type name press enter and restarts
3)gets to sign in an restarts
4)actually loads windows signs in then restarts when i open firefox
5)actually had it run for 2 hours then it restarts

how ever windows does say something about system32 being corrupt or something, would this cause major instability?

if its XP go into Safe Mode and run command sfc /scannow
this is the system file checker, but you will need to run any updates after, reapply service pack etc.
as long as it does load in safe mode you could go into Startup & recovery and switch off Automatically Restart after system failure
At least you will see the BSOD and pick up the error
also check mini dump is selected and you can evaulate the dump file

Go to the XP recovery console and type this.

Format C:

Then click yes, reboot and your all finished.

To get into safe mode, type F8 repeatively after your machine posts. Select safe mode, try what BISQUICK BOY said, if that dont work then bang your head on the monitor very hard. Isnt there a Event Log or something where you can go to see what the F!@#$ is going on.
